Halo 1 & 2 in 720P

I wonder how many Xbox games can also get this boost.

That could be a nice attractive feature to push Xbox owners into the X360 quicker.

That is very cool. It's this sort of thing that we should see from every title in addition to simple (not so simple) backward compatibility. Two thumbs up to Bungie and/or Microsoft (or whoever).

P.S. I have never played Halo or Halo 2, but this is all the more reason to pick it up should I purchase an Xbox 360.

Yeah you could probably pick up both with next to no cash used at launch.

I wonder how many Halo 2 nuts with HDTVs can resist the call of the 360. I personally probably wouldn't touch the games again unless I wan't to play through in anticipation of Halo 3 and maybe some 4 player.

wow you get to see just how low res the textures are in hd, besides the AA it might look better in 480P

<Insert generic remark over PS2 texture quality being much lower than any console since N64.>

there's something very wrong with this 720p image. it looks like somebody took a picture at approximately the same res as the first one and applied a desharpening filter on top. whereas it's supposed to have 50% more vertical resolution.. very weird.

It wouldn't hurt to actually read the linked article. ;)

The 720p version cap is from a video capture. They couldn't get the frame buffer grab due to technical reasons.

It's a wierd shot, halo looks MUCH better than that on my HDTV.

The 4xAA will be a god send though, maybe that will give me the motivation to actually finish that game! I can't bring myself to lower the difiiculty to normal...

Also worth noting is that they've passed 7 million copies of Halo2... What other game has sold more than this, apart from the GTA games?

Geez, there must be some horrible pressure on Bungie for Halo3. It's fortunate for them that they'll probably release with the movie, so that both marketing campaigns can feed off of each other...

Dunno about that. A new Halo by fall 2006 would do MS no harm either...

Tough call IMHO.

Edit: assuming GoW will hit early next year.

If MS knows what's good for them, they'll launch Halo 3 along side the Peter Jackson produced movie. The amount of hype would be insane.

The hype would be insane but i can't help but fear that this kind of situation could lead to a less-than-amazing Halo3.
All the attention would be on the movie and the hype, and well they can just afford to release a crappy game for all they care.
Not saying Halo 3 will be crap, but the risk to get sloppy with the quality of the product is there when hype goes through the roof.
Now, if Peter Jackson would also direct the game, things would get very interesting.

Are there any rumors regarding what part of the Halo story the motion picture will cover? Is it supposed to be the complete story (Halo 1, 2, 3? more?) or what? It would be kind of strange if watching the movie spoiled the game or vice versa.

Did Bungie say it is 4XAA?
