Half life 2

With half life to hitting the market soon I thought it be fun if we can talk about half life 2 on the upcoming systems. Lets try to keep this flame free though. Personaly I think the xbox would be the best suited for this. But the quality will come no where near the the geforce 4 lvl graphics. What does everyone else think.

Well, considering HL2 has been delated, the "soon" is a little subjective. ;)

I'm hoping it at least gets out by the holiday season though, but we'll see. Console versions are probably going to be bumped back a bit as they concentrate on getting it out for PC as soon and as good as possible. (Not to mention firming up Steam.)

na i'm still told before dec chap so I dunno , my source told me 2 weeks ago it was being delayed by at least 2 weeks

I dunno about that , 2 months ago my source told me that the middle end dx 9 ati parts would out perform the highend nvidia parts and i told him to stfu caue he was lieing. Now I know better.

I have read on a Dutch gaming site that it was more or less confirmed that it would come to PS2 (and not ps3) in one form or another...

a raped version probably

Mmm, if the PS2 version of HL2 were to make use of the HDD, it might work...

that'll solve the loading issue (for large levels). how is it going to deal with everything else?

Mmm the physics and perhaps the AI could be ported intact, but they'll have to drop some graphical candy...

Halflife 2 was only delayed till November, not next year, the game is finished, as of right now, this time is just being spent getting it to run on Nvidia cards

HL2 uses DX9 shaders, so yeah things will have to be cut down even on Xbox. Not to mention the texture quality and quite possibly level sizes and/or loading. Personally I think they will not bother with PS2 and GC versions, and will release the (improved) version as the launch game on PS3 and N5.

That's quite the conspiracy theory considering the benchmark will be out Sept 30th with (presumably) finalized code. Why would they delay the entire game 2 months to make it run better on NVIDIA hardware, when a benchmark which is supposed to represent HL2's performance of next week?

Well the benchmark used by the websites didn't use oh god i can't remember the name but its one of the features because nvidia couldn't do it and they wanted a fair benchmark . So maybe there are bugs with that feature and they are fixing them. Or mabye they feel bad for the fools that spent 500$ on a video card that gets less fps than a 150$ video card and looks worse to boot .

The benchmark has been out, the reason is, its a game not a benchmark.. they want to game to run on all types of hardware, thats not the actual given reason for the delay, but they did say the major thing they are working on is the Geforce FX workaround code.
