Half life 2

Uh heh, the HL2 benchmark being released on the 30th != the benchmark numbers that were released earlier.. that was just an E3 demo, Valve is releasing an entire benchmarking suite (with 3dmark Pro-ish features).

Right now I'd buy a 9x00 card for any number of reasons, nonamer.

but they did say the major thing they are working on is the Geforce FX workaround code.

Where was this stated? Would be interesting to know.

it was mentioned in pretty much every interview with Gabe Newell since the benchmarks were shown.
They have the FX working with a DirectX 8.1 path
it's just struggling on DirectX 9.. which it always will but they are
trying to get at least most of the features shining through and at
a reasonable speed.

I know they've been struggling with it, but from the way you were saying, it seemed like they made an official remark somewhere as to that being a leading cause of the delay. I think I didn't read your last post well enough is all. Hehe...

I rather think there are a few more things they want to tamp down as well, though if they're going to delay it anyway they might as well get more time in on the customized FX paths. Heh.

I bout a 9700pro last august for its speed , iq and driver quality. I bought a 5800ultra for a laugh. I bought a 9800pro for its speed in games , iq and driver quality. It plays all my games perfectly except nwns and that seems to be a problem with bioware.

Could be. There's certainly been a LOT going on with this game lately. You'll find a lot more discussion about this outside the Console forum, though. Heh...

well i guess they want the shipped game to be ass good as they can... i mean, PC world always has patches, but i appreciate the gesture to make sure the original title is almost perfect without the need of patches...
many PS2 mags are saying HL2 WILL come out on PS2.
OF COURSE it will be crap compared to the PC version, unless they give it to Naughty Dog (or anyone capable to make it look/play right) to develop, which is not gonna happen, not even in a parallel universe out of the infinite number of parallel universes there MIGHT be.

Naughty dog, or anyone else, cannot make a PS2 HL2 port which looks the way it's supposed to look... On the other hand, there are +50 milion PS2's, so they might want to give it a try to release HL2 on PS2... I'd rather see HL2 on PS3 or N5 though, it COULD surpass any PC version...

It is a little scary to think that the original Half Life on PS2 did not really surpass the PC version. What team was behind it?

If HL2 comes to PS3, I hope it won't be a rushed port as its' predecessor.
PS2.. I don't think so. Maybe a 2D RTS version, but not HL2 as we are to know it on PC.
Then again, if Killzone turns out to what is hyped, a good version of HL2 might be possible on PS2 (with the obvious trimmings).

OF COURSE naughty dog would change it... i was only giving a name of a dev studio that can deal with PS2's architecture... anyone is better than Gearbox (URRRGGGHH)...
50M ps2's are attractive from a financial point of view, and a game like HL2 would sell trillions on PS2 even though it might be nowhere near the level of gorgeousness of the PC version....
