SCEE announces a deal that will see Guerrilla developing games exclusively for itself and for Sony platforms in the future.
Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) and Guerrilla today announced that they have signed an exclusive development and publishing deal. Under the terms of the agreement, the European Killzone developer will develop games exclusively for SCEE and for Sony platforms from now on.

"This strategic alliance with one of Europe's hottest new creative and technical talents shows our determination to only work with the best, whether they are our in-house or not," said Phil Harrison, executive vice president of development at SCEE. "Killzone not only is a very important title for us but is also a great example of what can be done when a publisher and a developer partner closely together on a project. The results shout for themselves, and I am delighted that our production and creative teams can work even more closely with Guerrilla going forward."

In addition to Guerrilla's continuing work on Killzone, the agreement announced today will see Guerrilla beginning development on several new titles for Sony platforms in the near future. Guerrilla will also be given the opportunity to expand upon its Killzone franchise.

"We have enjoyed an excellent working relationship with SCEE throughout the development of Killzone and are extremely pleased to be extending this partnership," said Hermen Hulst, managing director of Guerrilla. "We are looking forward to working exclusively with SCEE, applying our talent and technology to new platforms in order to establish Guerrilla as one of the finest development studios in Europe."

Wow that's some great news! 8) So Guerilla is from now on a second party developer for Sony! I espected this because Sony was versy impressed by the technology (multi-layer texturing and stuff) they created, and this of such a young, Dutch games development company!
This deal could make Guerilla the "Bungie" for Sony. PS2 has a shortage of good shooters has and this is surely a step in
the good direction.

But I assume that Shellshock Nam '67 is also exclusive for
PS2 then?

I'm confused.. how does one develop games for itself? Maybe PC titles?

Um, why yes you are. "Itself" is in context of SCEE, since it's "their" Press-Release. Thus, it's developing games for SCEE and Sony Platforms in the future (eg. PS2 platform via SCEI, SCEK, SCEA)

  • Under terms of the deal Guerrilla will not only continue to work on Killzone for the PlayStation 2, but will take their knowledge and expertise to begin development on several new titles on future Sony platforms.

Um, correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't they ALREADY a Sony-exclusive dev? They haven't done anything for any competing platform to my knowledge, or even planned to...

Ok, so companies love to issue press releases, well, they issued one now. Hope they're happy announcing that which everybody already knew. ;)

I expect Sony will issue another release announcing, "wednesdays follows tuesdays, fires are hot", and possibly, "up is up, down is down", possibly within just a few days.

Well, their first game to be released - Shellshock '67 (IIRC) is to be an XBox/PS2 game. So... yeah,

No Guerilla was an independent company untill now. They just had an exclusive deal to make Killzone only for the PS2. Shellshock Nam '67 is planned for the PS2, Xbox and PC and that wouldn't be the case if it was an Sony exclusive dev it would it?
