GT4 or Forza? Which one do you think will take the crown?

GT is the only racing game I know that gets coverage from car hobbyist magazines, and used for building simulators demonstrated at various car shows/exhibitions.
Testimony from a professional race car driver was given about how training on F355 in the off-season improved his real-world times. I have heard the similar things said about Gran Turismo 3, too.

The significance of a game being used as a simulator for car exhibitions really has a lot to do with promotional arrangement, as SEGA had a similar set-up with some car manufacturers - like Toyota I believe - for a time.

Heh, and a good part of that is due to how damn good it looks compared to the others out there plus how well its known.

Edit: Plus as above, Sony prolly offering to make free special versions to get publicity for themselves and the car company.

Seeing that Gran Turismo is marketed as a racing simulator, makes it hard for me to believe car manufacturers wouldn't give a damn about the realistic representation of their cars (not speaking about the visual achievements, but how accurately the car's characteristics is represented).

... Which makes me wonder, do u guys think there are forums on the net, just like this one, where cars flame wars take place? ... With the Chap's and the Deadmeat's of the car universe......

Like:

A: HAH My Ford Focus GTi does 1.3Mph more than ur Ford Focus XL (??)!!!!!!!!
B: U F**KING FANBOY, i modded my Focus XL, and now it does a whole 3MPH more than ur Focus GTi!!!!!!!
A: NNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
C: You losers, the best car out there is the next gen SLK!!!!

:? :? Kinda scary thinking about that........

SegaR&D....... oh leave it.

I thought u had to prove u're actually a SEGA employee before posting here again, by the way, how's that going?

We actually have several high-level developers working on our A.I. alone. Our main A.I. developer is new to games, but incredibly experienced in A.I. He’s a PhD A.I. developer from Microsoft’s research division. In the past, he’s worked on robots and learning A.I. systems.

Excellent! Put your Herbie Hancock's disc Futureshock on the table, and ...Rockit! Watch the drivers burning that disc down!

That's goes way beyond Gran Turismo, 'nuff said!

If your goal is to make the best-selling driving game, then trying to simulate real-world complexity is the last thing you'd want to do, simply because complexity minimizes playability, which, in turn, limits your consumer base.

This is not "this simple", because if it was true, the best selling racing game, will be a pure arcade game, which GT is obviously not.
And do you think a PS2 has enough raw computational raw power to simulate real world physics subtleties, ...way beyond what GT offers?

edit: SegaR&D posted a pic of M.Schumacher (dressed with his driving suit, which means he wasn't home sharping his "driving style") playing F355 arcade, and then he removed the pic.

SegaR&D

Ferrari 355 Challenge, Michael Schumacher is a driver for Ferrari.

And yes F1 drivers loves videogames... But if you saw Ayrton Senna play with Super Mario Bros back in the days, would you had come to the conclusion that SMB helps Ayrton Senna to sharp his driving skills? (.... Maybe it helped sharp his reflexes )

10 years, already... :|
And i thought that the autopsy revealed that he died at the moment of the crash.

Well, let's just say that he was declared dead in the hospital i was born in... That was one sad day, i remember it well...

It was indeed; like a lot of people, i was in front of my TV when the accident happened... I just couldn't believe it. :|

As for the topic: Seeing that Forza is 30 fps, it's already clear in my book that it will not match the Gran Turismo series.

What does that tell you?

That he happens to work for Ferrari. And the game is an official Ferrari game. What does it tell you? That F355 is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> GT series? That's personal taste. I personally think it's like comparing something to something very different. (apples to oranges is old)

perhaps...

...that F355 is so insanely "accurate", that M. Schumacher drives the F355 to practise his realworld driving skills for the Formula 1 racing car? Wow, that's impressive. I didn't know that the F355 and a F1 car were that similar actually... but who am I fooling - that picture basically proves it! (or the accuracy of the simulator if your statement is correct)

Do you honestly think that this guy needs to practise infront of a TV?
