What made me say it, the truth! The AI does not fight for position, you may see them trying to bump each other out of the way, but this is not fighting for position, it is bad AI. Good AI would go around the car in front of them, not bump them from behind until they finally get the position. And believe me, I'm not the only one that can't stand the AI. I know many other people that feel the same way, and most reviews of the game also mention something about the AI. Here is an excerpt from the IGN review;
The car bumping each other out ? They do touch sometimes, but they don't rammed into each other.
Anyway, you can only go around the car, if your car is significantly faster than the car you are over taking.
I've driven around the track following the AI drivers, and watched them closely. They all follow a strict line. If another AI car gets in the way, they bump each other out of the way. There's no attempt to drive around one another -- they just bump and jostle until one gets ahead of the other, and then they follow the line again. It looks OK from a distance, because there's no damage, and the bumping is usually subtle. But follow behind and you can see how it works.
Again, in a straight, you can only drive around if your car is significantly faster than the car you are over taking. If not you will be at serious disadvantage by going off your racing line.
But the AI do try to outbrake each other in corners, if they have a close race.
I guess I just expected more than everyone else from the third game in a series. It still has some of the same flaws as GT, like being able to bounce off of walls and other cars without losing really any speed. Maybe a newb to the series would like it, but fans of the previous games hopeing for the gameplay to get an upgrade I'd think would be disappointed.
You can bounce off walls in real car in such a way that you don't lost much speed. You'll be damage in real car though, the damage is what make you lose speed eventually.
Bouncing off walls don't really decrease your time anyway. My dissapointment, was that on some tracks, you can cut off the track, to decrease your lap time, that's a bigger problem, than any other problems IMO. In F1 games, you get drive through penalty, not in GT series though.
Like I said before the big plus on this one is the Force Feedback Wheel, it was the first on console. And it adds significantly to the enjoyment of the game. If you don't like the AI, link up your system, and play with your friends, its always better like that. The bouncing of walls, etc will only be solved if they implement a proper damage system, like in most F1 games.
And I am not even sure, if Sony actually pays every car manufacturer for license, or they actually gets it for free (much like Bond movie), that they are very reluctant in regard to damage.
