34 and 39 idle, 64 and 70 under load is what I have observed so far.
I should probably get a fan for the side panel.
Ah that's right - they no longer include the 230mm side fan. You can mount 4x120 there also.
Still, that's a big drop, no?

The glossy plastic surface layer over the decal on my XFX 6950 cooler peeled off. What a shitty adhesive they used. Uhg.
Nope that was gone already. There was a thin acrylic plastic like layer on top of the goofy decal and this started to peel off too when I caught the edge with my finger. It looked awful so I just pulled it off entirely and cleaned off the decal as well. It's supposed to its just a protective film
Probably because the 40nm Cayman chip dumps out considerable heat, a lot for a dual slot cooler to deal with. The cooler is quite capable but it's just noisier than I like. I don't really want to get into water cooling. I'm planning on attaching 2x92mm @ 5v to the Accelero S1. It'll only cost about $20 total because I already have fans galore.
What is it with ATI and poor coolers? Seems NV consistently outdoes them in this area. Especially on high end cards, it seems like the easiest thing to get right.
Yes but these cards are putting off more heat than any CPU and the limitations of the expansion card form factor are less than ideal for designing coolers. Can't exactly strap on a Scythe Ninja if you know what I mean. It's also more difficult to exhaust the heat. CPUs often have one or two exhaust fans nearby as well as lots of room for a huge tower cooler with a big fan. GPU coolers tend to recycle a lot of the warm air they create. They don't dump out any more heat then the older 5850/5870's put out tbh...
The Setsugen-2 fits in the reference design space except that it extends nearly 5 cm toward the case side (they say intentionally to keep from just stirring the same air around). That fan is 12mm thick. There are NO 120x12mm PWM fans anyway on earth either.
Here's a photo of it mounted:
It really does fit within the reference cooler + card space.
What's the make/model on that fan please, Mize?
Ty in advance.
Well, nothing wrong with my own 'frame detection' ... fraps agrees with me that none of my games seem to be able to make it much past 30fps on my lowly 5570. Burnout hovers between 20-30 even at low resolutions, Mass Effect 2 fairly steady around 30 (sometimes less sometimes up to 34), etc.
