*God Of War 3 Thread v2.0 + Interview Stig Asmussen

The Prince of Persia survey kinda surprised me. It's unclear how many (what percentage) left for the more challenging game play and how many left for the death animation.

Then again, if we take Wii into consideration, we'd get a more balance view about gamers today.

What I described is exactly what happens in the game. Maybe my reaction was extreme (I don't think it was), but I thought that scene was incredibly tasteless, and I'm not sure why it was included, or who is supposed to be enjoying it.

I too thought that that scene was excessively pornographic and sociopathic.

I don't have a problem with the nudity in itself (I just think virtual nudity is kind of pathetic) and I wouldn't call it pornography. I used the term gore porn to mean gratuitous fetishized gore. Sociopathic, I'd agree with.

How is it pornographic? They just showed Amphitrite's chest (in a lot of mythology artwork she is topless), there was no sexual content. Its silly to say just because I can see the nipples its automatically pornographic.

Also, at this point Kratos doesn't give a shit who gets in his way as long as he can get to Zeus. Everyone who is a god, lesser god or is in anyway associated with them is a enemy. HE is the God of War after all, men, women and children are all fair game in war.

The tasteless part was the trophy earned after using her to get past the gate, I definitely thought that was uncalled for.

Okay, my next attempt to shift the discussion away from the gore&porn topic, right to the game:

The only visual flaw I detected through my playthroughs is the beard (and maybe the hairs) of Zeus (I know that this sounds weird).
As Zeus is kind of central character with lots of close ups...I really wonder why they couldn't make his beard and hair look better!?

On the other hand, I really loved the looks of the Smith God! The voice acting (how his mouth and words clearly show the physical injury) is outstanding. I don't know why, but the face, the voice acting and the gesture...just the overall impression of the character strongly reminded me of (Sir) Sean Connery. If they ever make a film...he should be the Smith God
And, additionally
...this was really the only one I got sad when he attacked Kratos, because I realized that I have to kill him now...
Hephaestos is a really unfortunate subject in the GOW universe.

That was pure nonesense & unnecessary imo
Why would he attack Kratos with a cheesy "Retribution !!!"..?? Its stupid for him to think that he can kill Kratos when he already has the knowledge that he's just too powerful...better yet ? Kratos just killed Cronos & yet Hephaestus thinks he could kill him that easily ? They should've made Hephaestus one exception which Kratos doesn't kills

But in the end all the immortals have to die in order to usher in the age of man. Whilst any of the olympians or titans still exist the age of man cannot come to pass.

I think that it greatly expresses how Hephaestus is hopeless and that, although he knows that Kratos easily finishes him off, he has to do everything he can to rescue his 'daughter'...as he knows that she gets annihilated when Kratos forces her to open the box!

What is sad, is that it seems to me that Kratos would have tolerated the Smith God and would not have killed him...without the provocation.

Props to Nightshade for the 1000 hit combo trophy hint. Got that and finished the game on Titan, leaving me two trophies away from a platinum.

The challenge where you have to let the Medusas turn you into stone 10 times without dying is tough as nails. Those Satyrs are merciless.

I have that trophy and that was the most annoying mission. But the satyrs are not that problematic unlike the cyclops when you hit 8.

My advice is to take out the satyrs via the QTE method to buy you some time as a gorgon tries to turn you into stone. Just be sure not to stand near the edges when the cyclops show up.... I died a few times when I was at 9 by getting knocked out of the platform :devilish:

I have no patience with these challenges. too fiddly and down to luck most of the time, i completed 2 and i'll never touch them again.

I thought the closeups looked pretty good, though the beard/hair looked a tad painted on.

Hephaestus was voiced by Rip Torn, a very capable and experience stage actor. Watching the making of vids, he joked that he looks a bit like Hephaestus and he does

I think him and, Malcolm McDowell (Daedalus) Adrienne Barbeau (Hera) did the best VA work in the game. Krato's VA really sounded like the odd man out this time around more so than before.

Too bad they couldn't get Linda Hunt to do Gaia again. I guess she's too busy with NCIS LA nowadays.

I wasnt referring to the nudity when I said "pornographic", I was referring to the level of violence directed at a defenseless woman.
Well i think it's pretty clear by now that Kratos is kind of a sociopath.
It was clear from the first few hours of the very first game. I don't need the motif rammed down my throat with a gratuitous attack on a defenseless sex slave.
