God of War 2 & God of War 3 Tid Bits

Electronic Gaming Monthly's October 2005 magazine reveals some interesting tid bits about the future of the ambitious God of War franchise. A small bit tucked into the rumors corner basically says that the sequal for God of War will be on PS2. It also indicates God of War 3 will get the full next-gen treatment on the PS3. According to their sources we should see God of War 2 sometime in 2006. At this point David Jaffe has not announced if he will be working on either of the sequals.

For those of you that own the first game and have beaten it, be sure to check out the "Birth of the Beast" video in the Treasures menu. This will provide a small preview of the sequal.

GoW sounded like it was a really good mix of solid tried and true gameplay executed heavenly (errr Hadeningly) with a cool story/theme with perfect execution of graphics and would appeal to consumers looking for mature rated fun.

Call me dull, but a game like that sounds like a killer next gen title (with proper care of course)... but if sequaled out could die a quick death.

Sounds like GoW could either be a really hot Tier 2 property for years to come (and maybe even move up the ladder) or could fizzle out in a fade of glory. Cashing out the franchise for an easy buck sounds baaaaad.

Of course the theory is hit the sweet spot (90M+ PS2 install base) with a quick sequal to buffer profits and transition with a killer next gen app. Lets hope the theory works better than the impression.

Some franchises are worth it. If GoW can keep up the high production values, it will be worth it--it was one of the best games from the current generation.

Some franchises are a good thing, like Halo, GTA, Ratchet and Clank, Mario, Zelda...off the top of my head...

God of War for PS3 is the only reason I need to purchase PS3. I can't tell how much I enjoyed That game, and luckily I had the uncencored US-version.
