Gigabyte vs. VisionTek

Given what you see in this review is the GF4 Ti 4600 worth nearly twice as much as the Radeon 8500?

Sad thing is Rage3D members have bought $99 OEM 8500 Le's, done a voltage Mod and added 20$ worth of cooling and hit 305/305

Oh well nothing like free peformance :)

Yeah but I think that this card is different as it comes with V-Tuner Tweaker supported, can overclock your GPU and Memory speed. This may allow for even higher clock speeds that a regular Radeon 8500 can't touch without serious cooling units. I think that this is just the start for ATi this summer.
The RV250. is supposed to be considerably more powerful then the R200.

Then of course there is the R300 that is rumored to be released around the same time in Aug.. I suspect Nvidia has something up their sleeve but no rumors at all with regards to it except the NV30 of which is also rumored to not be available until the end of fall. Never know for sure what is going on in this industry....again it is a wait and see.

Rv250 is baffling me. Its supposed to be smaller than R200 and yet it has the same features as and configuration as it. Its supposed to be faster than R200 and yet all the images I've seen so far are fanless versions. It also includes Dual integrated 10bit dacs, integrated TMDS transmitter and antegrated TV-out which I don't believe R200 had all of. Its also supposed to be cheaper than R200. And all of this on the same silicon process?

Theres just something not right with that equation.

Hmm, the RV250 looks to be worth waiting for. Hopefully its price won't be too far off from the $99 NewEgg 8500"LE".

QXGA DVI! Can't wait for the QXGA LCDs to begin bowing in. :)

Yeah, there seems to be allot of different rumors floating around about the RV250. It is supposed to be a "value" part meaning that it is lower priced. But I am with Dave on this.... I find the part perplexing. Hopefully it is an affordable card with even greater performance then the Radeon 8500. This makes sense as ATi is discontinuing the Radeon 8500. I suspect that the RV250 will replace it as their new mid range part.

My thoughts exactly.

Anybody got a contact @ Tyan...?

RV250s seem to have passive cooling only & don't employ BGA RAM. The PS is simplified & daughter board slot available as an option. ATI products seem to be getting interesting enough to merit consideration...

In AnandTech's Computex overview, they said they thought the RV250 would debut around $199. VR-Zone seems to think it will be announced on July 17th, so I guess we'll know soon enough.

notice the new Xbit labs 4200 Vs 8500 comparrison shows the 8500 getting soundly thrashed.

i like how they show an overclocked GF4, but no overclocked 8500.

And the fact that the entire comparrison focuses on speed, but then in the closign statement makes a very vague comment about the radeon having interesting features...

Well, at least Im sure this review will make the Types of the world happy again. Only imagine the utter confusion that the vast variances of the various reviews cause the uninformed...

Yeah the Radeon 8500 LE overclocks pretty good and compares quite well with the Radoen 8500. That is a noteworthy point. However I am becoming more interested in this Radeon 8500 XT. There really isn't a lot of information out there with regards to it and I would like to know more.

Dang,

what happen to all of DoomTroopers post? Hard to tell what was going on.

Yes this reveiw was not very good. However given the fact that the average Joe does not know about AA or AF and the fact that that res is still the most popular, then its not too bad as a start.

Also there is some merit to not showing AF and AA methods when both are different and both have different cost. We all know that there are differences in the way the two do AA. Nethier method is perfect and both have cases were the work well. Same can be said for AF. So in order to do a proper review one needs to increase their time to explain all of these difference and provide screen shots and thats a lot of work. I am not saying he is right or wrong. I am saying that these types of reviews are not ment for the hardcore gamer.

Yes fact is anyone with a GF3 or higher end GF2 class of cards knows about this stuff and a reveiw like this is pointless. But there is a larger user base that does not so AA and AF terms are still lost to these folks. And for that reqauards the review is not so bad.

Then factor in they are not from the stats here. Differnt culture different values.

Would 2 pipes be the answer? How much silicon would that save? But passive cooling, on a 300-350mhz 0.15 micron part?
