Giant asteroid could hit Earth in 2014

Be ironic if some nation decided to fire a few hundred ICBM's at it to nudge it off course and instead they nudge it right into earth's direction.

ICBMs cannot reach that high... but yeah, it would be fun ;)

If something like this is ever confirmed, and we have a decade's warning, I would prefer atleast 10 different projects be implemented for redundancy. No Bruce Willis on a single mission.

Ironically, such a threat might be a great benefit to the world. It might reduce conflict and promote unity, and also dump about .1-1 trillion into space technology development.

Odds will decrease over the next few weeks as they refine calculations... They might wanna stop diong these early announcements with the chicken little effect starting to kick in.

Id make sure odds were really serious before jumping the gun of which this is the 15th? 20th? odd time we've been told this in the last few years??

We should turn it into a 2nd moon, and position it close enough to the earth so that people can take weekend trips to the casinos built on it. That is, of course, assuming it's not highly radioactive, or full of alien bacteria swarming with unknown diseases and viruses.

We should turn it into a 2nd moon

Don't we already have 3 (the big one, Cruithne, and the one discovered last year that they now think is probably (but not definitely) space junk)?

Don't know about the 3rd, but Cruithne isn't really a moon as it doesn't have a static gravitational bound (as seen at this time) to the Earth like Luna. I guess it could be considered a moon if you go by resonence... kinda clouds the definition of a "moon" when you think about it.
