GCN SC pics

QRoach and friends

Stop getting so hot and bothered. Not everyone has to believes straight away that every part of this game must be cut down just because it comes from XBox. To all XBox fans here, stop being so defensive!

Now on topic:

This is another quote from an IGN employee.

The GCN version isn't complete and some of the areas looked like they had placeholder textures. Also, the contrast setting didn't look like they were done. The game's got the sweet character shadowing, but the contrast is so light at this point that it's hard to see. So I'll reserve judgment until I see the final build

Hopefully they'll sort out the contrast in the final version so the lighting/shadowing will show up better.

I looked at the XBox version and the GC vids and the textures in the GC version certainly look spot on IMO.

Oh and yeh the game is being done by the same team as the PS2 version.

I don't know if there's still talks about a MS buyout of SEGA. I'd assume there's still some discussion, but the general consensus that I break off from Japan is that development is going to shift away from certain game ideas that don't seem to work. A lot more attention is being paid to the PS2 now, as that seems to be one source of success that SEGA's been getting lately. There's even some talk about decreasing GCN development because there could be a shift in focus for the company where it's about 80% PS2 and 20% anything else. But there are a few games in the works for the Xbox now that may just change the Xbox userbase minds about SEGA, and SEGA"s mind about Xbox.

care to mention WHAT Ign employees..
first off, those videos look very much like the Xbox version, maybe its time to upgrade your computer.. a little blurry, but it is Quicktime for christs sake.

Secondly, According to Matt and Cory, it is a port of the Xbox version, its looking very close to the Xbox version(better in some ways, not as good in the lighting), I've already posted such comments from an official page posting, not just babble by who is most likely Hilary or Manabyte or some other GC loathing foaming idiot who wanders by and maked uneducated judgements on every GC game they see out of the corner of thier eye.

Just expect SEGA to actually get an impressive profit for the next fiscal year (impressive for SEGA's recent 5 year track record that is) and actually make other people take notice of the company once again. There's a whole lot of costs being cut and a lot of major talk about bringing the games back to the quality side......and there's mucho talk about making games that people will actually want to play. At least games that appeal to humans.

I do not see what is impressive about a company getting money from reducing costs and investments. It just look like a defensive move. and "games that people wil actually want to play" smell like EA. Nice from a business point of view, bad from everything else.

Hopefully, the Sega we love will not die in the process. I'm not interested in a company with the Sega brand and the inner workings of EA.

You have an interesting perspective wazoo, that's all.

Have you ever owned a Genesis? If so then you will know what I'm talking about, when SEGA released great games that were enjoyable for the masses. You may think it sounds a lot like EA, but it also sounds a lot like Konami, Capcom, Namco, Ubi Soft, and a whole mess of other devs/pubs. The SEGA you once knew already died a long time ago. And you may not be impressed to see SEGA turn a somewhat decent profit, but it would boggle my mind. The company is in the shits right now and it has to make changes in order to survive. The quality of SEGA's games has deteriorated over the years in some cases, specifically with Sonic Team. Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 were both a dissapointment for that dev team's track record. Samba De Amigo was good, and Phantasy Star Online is the team's only saving grace. A lot of SEGA games lately do lack something that once represented something, something that made SEGA stand out.

And about Johnny being forgiven because he's a die hard SEGA fan, why not? You may have your personal gripes with him, and he might be a little overzealous when it comes to MS and the Xbox, but he's always been a good contributor to discussion.......at always game.

Employee... learn to read. And it was Peer who said that.

> According to Matt and Cory, it is a port of the Xbox version

Please... it was unconfirmed information. They also used to believe that the Cube port is being done by Ubi Soft Montreal and now they know that isn't the case.

Sonic:

Haha! You mean instigator to discussion because all he do is troll.

I do not consider Sega in the same way as those devs. I never owned a Genesis honestly, but I owned a DC will all Sega games on that platform (at least those released in the west). That is THIS Sega I do like. IF sega turn a profit and keep the good original games coming, I will be more than happy, like I'm happy when nintedo sells millions of pokemon even if I dislike this game, because it means that some original brillant games from N. will also come.

Anyway, I'm impressed to learn that Sega was even better in the genesis days ;)

That is what I think about their post Dc/late DC efforts.

I was not trying to start a flame, (did you see my smiley ?). it is a long time since I did participate in those endless threads.

Now, we know it is not true. What we can hope, it is a better than ps2 version, mainly on framerate and lighting, due to GC ease of devs and maybe the speed increase in their algorithms, but as far as room complexity, it wil be like the ps2 due to memory constraints, I think. I just hope SC on Gc will be not pe priced like Rayman3 wrt the other versions. Shame on you, Ubi Soft.

Ali G,

Stop getting so hot and bothered. Not everyone has to believes straight away that every part of this game must be cut down just because it comes from XBox.

Who's hot and bothered? Nobody said every part of the game is cut down, but we do have reports from IGN that the game is a port of the PS2 version right now, instead of the xbox and some areas of the game actually "are" cut down. A more recent info then the one quote you posted. Peer even posted this over at gaming age.

This discussion is nothing more than one group of people trying to convince another group of people that somehting has been confirmed already.

To all XBox fans here, stop being so defensive!

Nobody here is defending the Xbox. A few of the hardcore gamecube fans around here just can't take something as a fact despite having evidence to suggest otherwise right in front of them. If anyone was getting defensive, it was those people from the very start of the thread.

Sonic, i was obviously shocked that sega didn't already decide to focus more on the PS2 (for money reasons) before this. I do hope they manage to turn things around...

...and they have some big xbox titiles in development?

On the IGN Insider boards, Cory and Matt have both said it appears to be a port of the PS2 game, and Shanghai is doing both now.

I don't see why you guys find it so hard to believe that a system with half the effective RAM and half the effective memory bandwidth needs to cut back on some details from the Xbox... It's not that out of this world...

Quincy, yes, there are a few Xbox games that are looking real good right now. I'm expecting these games to have a turnaround for SEGA on the Xbox, and it might secure future titles.

wazoo, I see your point now. Glad things are al cool.

cybamerc, you should re-read my post, I wasn't referring to this message board, and you aren't the one who should be talking about trolling.

things are not that sharp. You are not counting the on-die ram bandwidth in your computation. This is more a question of memory, this is the Unreal Engine after all.

Well I've already finished the XB SC but the GBA connectivity has me interested. Btw I saw the PC version of SC the other day. I dont know the system particulars (3D card,CPU etc) but it looked better than XB SC imo. But that does'nt mean it's better game than XB one. Just like the GCN and PS2 versions may not be inferior games from the XB one afa gameplay is concerned.
What did one of you mean by the "pricing of Rayman 3 GCN?" It's $39.00 for Cube. How much is it for the other systems?

Sonic, I hope you "heard" wrong on the Sega Gamecube thing. It'd be another big Sega mistake imo. Sega is averaging 100,000 units sold per title released on GCN so far. That fits in squarely between XB and PS2. Why would'nt they (Sega) continue to release games like SMB, PSO, SoA and Sonic on GCN?

Thos games are just fine, but I see no reason why a PS2 or Xbox port can't be made of the game. It's the damn exclusive titles that's killing SEGA, and if focus were put right on the PS2 first and GC and Xbox second then it would be better overall for the company. 100,000 units isn't exactly what SEGA expects to be averaging for its games. It wants at least 150,000 units per game sold, but of course that won't happen with every game. I think that keeping games like SMB and SoA are fine on the GCN, but it wouldn't hurt to see a port to the PS2.

My views on the Sonic games is that Sonic Team needs to have a seriously look at it. The game sold wonders on the GCN, and I believe it could sell wonders on the PS2 and Xbox too. Maybe SA3 can be released on the GCN, but that type of Sonic game would go nowhere on the PS2 and Xbox. The Sonic series needs to come back to being purely action based, going through speed, and it would be a major plus if you could be Super Sonic throughout the whole game.

That's how I feel as well. Sonic could be huge if they took out the garbage sections from SA2 :(

Hey, and WTF is Sonic Team doing these days anyways? They need to come out with a new Sonic game. Instead of all these damned ports (PSO, SA2, SA1) :devilish:

Glad to hear that you kept your job at Sega. Hopefully they clean themselves up and there won't be anymore layoffs in the future.

Sonic Team is carefully working on their next few titles. Porting PSO took up much of the work. Not sure what the Japan Sonic Team is up to, though I hear it could be something with dreams. I have no clue what that means though.
