It is also available in HK

Around HK$280 ~= US$35

They (the above e-gameclub link) modify it from the original Component cable so the quality should be pretty good.

And BTW, the cable is only good for games that support progressive output since most monitors are not able to display interlaced modes.

Do you have one? If you do is the output quality comparable to the VGA box for DC?

I have an NEC FP series monitor that also supports interlaced, but I think that mode is limited to 43 Hz refresh.

I don't have one, I use a Key Digital transcoder for my X-BOX, PS2 and GC at the moment.

NTSC interlaced mode should be 15.75KHz horizontal and 60Hz vertical sync rate, most monitors only accept 30KHz or above horizontal scanning rate input.

I have one. Quality is great. I would say it's as good as DC VGA-box quality. The problem is that it's useless with games that don't support progressive scan. Most monitors don't work with 15.75Khz horizontal sync rate (well, at least mine doesn't :( ) so keep that line-doubler ready for those games. Fortunately almost all 2nd- and 1st-party games are progressive scan compatible :)

Well I finally received my VGA cable in the mail yesterday and after using it on a handful of games, I've found something rather interesting. Some games like Rogue Leader looks kinda soft like it's being line doubled while others like ED and HomeRun King looks very sharp much like the VGA output on DC, hmm...wierd.

Anyway the cable is very high quality, it looks nothing like that pic I posted above. There's no home made looking grey connector for the D-Sub interface like shown in that pic. It looks just like one single OEM VGA cable for PCs. It's all black too. I'm very happy because ever since I used the VGA box on DC, I've been waiting forever for a true VGA solution for GCN. I had been using a lame Redant VGA box for my GCN until a real solution became available and needless to say, it pales in comparison to this true VGA cable :)

Actually it's something like 640 x 512 (not totally sure on the exact number). PAL gamers want to play full screen screen as well :)

I assume games use anamorphic widescreen which is the same resolution as a normal 4:3 display. Alternatively you can reduce the vertical resolution. Increasing the horisontal resolution isn't an option on GameCube. But I really don't know how its done in practice.

Afaik optimized (= full screen, 60Hz) PAL-games are using PAL60, a pseudo-standard which has the same resolution and refresh rate as NTSC (640x480x60Hz). Every newer PAL-TV supports this. I could be wrong there though ;)

There are full screen 50 Hz games as well.

Are there in-game options for progressive mode, because I get a visual mess when I hook up the cube with this adapter to my monitor. It is a cheap 17" monitor but it should work. Any suggestions?

Are you holding down B at start-up? Also keep in mind that the game has to support prog scan which not all games do unfortunately.

Assumming the specific game supports progressive scan, you have to hold down the B button until the screen is readable which on most games is about 30 seconds.

60Hz PAL is not a pseudo standard, it's called PAL-M and it's used in Brazil, and probably some other places too...
