GC price drop tomorrow?

i think the price we'll pay the GC here in France (99 ?) includes VAT (19,6 %)

If that's true then this is an absolutely terrible move by Nintendo to sell GC for £79 in the U.K when they could so easily sell it for £70 (100 Euro's). Our VAT in the U.K is only 17.5%, which is lower then France, yet we'll be paying £10 more for a GC then France and the rest of Europe.

Instead of crying against Nintendo, you should cry about your country which refused the Euro. you pay the consequences, that is all. All over Europe except UK, the price is the same, no matter how high is the tax in the different countries.

Firstly I am not crying about anything, so keep your childish comments to yourself.

What does the Euro have to do with this? Do Nintendo not know how to convert Euro's to Pounds properly? Seriously, tell me how the Euro effects this?

BTW, regarding the Euro, I'm glad we didn't join and if I'm given a vote on it I'll vote to stay with the Pound. If it annoys you that we didn't join then tough. I like being able to know instantly if I have enough money to buy what I want just by feeling in my pocket. I like being able to look through a shop, or online, and know straight away what is and isn't a great deal. I'm comfortable with my currency!

Whatever. I would be childish to comment on this. I prefer to apologize for that comment if I make you think I was attacking you.

The fact that UK is not a part of the Euroland has a cost. Ignoring it will not make it disappear. Of course it is so much easier to think that Nintendo hates the Brits.

You are overreacting. Never did I say that I was worried about such situation. I was just making comments. After all, i'm not paying the GC UK have to pay it, so why should I be worried.

Of course its not easier for me to blame Nintendo. I am a big Nintendo fan and you know that. If there is a geniune reason why not being part of the Euro means that Nintendo has to sell GC for £10 more in the U.K then just tell me. But saying stuff like "not being part of the Euroland has a cost" is far to vague to be helpful here.

I actually said annoyed not worried. I don't know why you'd be annoyed, it just sounded to me as if you were.

BTW, I am not having to pay the U.K GameCube price either, as I've had a GC for ages. But I am annoyed by this simply because its a senseless decision for Nintendo to make and could hurt them a lot. Unless of course there is a geniune reason for it. Like a console specific U.K tax that no other country has. But if there is then I'm not aware of it.

it's not only Nintendo u know... EVERYTHING in the UK costs more. EVERY console costs more here than the majority of other countries. consoles launched at US$299 are launched here at GB£299 (which equals to US$498.01 according to today's exchange rate)... it's always been like this and always will be.
and of course it doesnt come down to "companies hating Brits"... there are many elements that make products in britain more expensive.
i still think it's a shamble, but theres nothing i can do so i aint gonna cry over it...

well u dont expect people to rally on the streets because of this do u... ;) i mean there are reasons (-THEY WANT US TO BELIEVE-) why prices are higher here in the UK...
just like games and DVD's released MONTHS after US versions. sometimes even AFTER they come out in Italy for example (i know about italy cause some of my family and friends are there and they tell me)
Real fact is, we could VERY WELL just get the american copies of DVD's and games, since they are in english, without having to wait months just because the production houses have to put frikking swedish translations in them. of course we also shouldnt be a PAL territory but this is all in my little "what if" world...

like I said we be suckers.

and that''s if they get past the BBFC (is that right? it's been awhile) and even then it's horrible butchered.

well maybe not that extreme but it explains alot.

well it's true though isnt it!!! we speak english, why do we have to wait like 4 months to get THE SAME VERSION released in the States? because Hans Krueger wants his DVD's in frikking german??? wait for your translation Mr Krueger, in the meantime i could be here watching my DVD's in ENGLISH... u know what i mean?
we're NOT in europe, we dont have Euros, we speak frikking english, why should we wait for Ms Claudine Ravel to get her DVD in french....

Get a codefree player, get RC1 DVDs ... they are even cheaper via import than those overpriced, edited and far too late europe versions. Stop bitching you big, fat drama-queen :D

well if i'm smart i buy all my products on the net and don't pay the 6% sales tax i have to in jersey . Or i can go to jersey city and pay 3% ( don't ask why i have no clue ) . I shouldn't have to but thats the way it is . Just get a buddy in the states . I send my cousin in italy all the stuff he wants . Even with shipping it ends up costing him less . for his birthday i sent him a 100$ in dvds (most were 10-15 dvds and some had discounts if i bought 2 or 3) and he check them out in italy and it would have cost almost 300$ over there .

i know!!! and there are shops here that sell R1 DVDs...
all i'm saying is that we shouldnt be in the position to have to import stuff from overseas thats all...
just like everything else i should import to enjoy all the features (like progressive scan on Xbox and GC)... we should have to go through the pain of import stuff from overseas. thats what i think. i DO get imports but i dont like doing it. i wanna be able to get into a shop and enjoy what american people enjoy. no more no less (actually if there was more, it would be welcome but i digress)

what did you pay 515 euros for ?

the eurozone launch price of the GC was 199 euros, it was intended to be 249 euros but was lowered beforce the launch.

Actually there are several Region 2 versions.

No sure about the rest of the europe, but even in Scandinavia there are at least two different versions. For example a R2 DVD sold in Sweden often has no finnish subtitles. Similarily the dvd sold in GB, Germany and France do not have subtitles in swedish.

Don't know what the point of my post is, but even if the whole world was one Region Unlimited, I think there still would be differences in release days due to there being so many different languages to translate.

I still don't know what I'm trying to get across, but what pisses me of more than the delayed releases (Finding Nemo will be released here sometime next spring :( ), is that R2 discs often lack the dts track and some extras, because there being more language versions on the disc.

london-boy, if you are not in Europe, where are you?
Even if you don't have the euro's, England is still very much part of the Europe and EU.

actually DVD's sold here usually have english and swedish or some other scandinavian language, for some reason... and sometimes they go all international-friendly and put like 4 languages like french, italian, german and all that... not EVERY production house has the resources to put out a different DVD version for evey country. many DVD's are the same in most parts of europe because they contain english, french and german... of course europe would still be divided (one version with italian, spanish and all that, one version for english, french and german and so forth)

all i'm saying is, WE ENGLISH LIVING AND SPEAKING PEOPLE should NOT be part of that since we just liesten to the same audio track present in R1 DVD's, that is the ENGLISH one. see ENGLISH comes from... errmmm... ENGLAND.... u'd think that would be an advantage....

the UK has always been the outsider in Europe, because english people do not want to realte in any way to european people or because of the fact that we have always been closer to the US than to europe in cultural terms. everyone has a different reason.
still we will be part of europe one day so i guess i'll just have to sit here and winge&whine for the rest of my life, with my downgraded and delayed DVDs and games or until i move to the US...

But R2 DVD's have better resolution and no 2-3 pulldown, and I think that's bit more important than few missing extras every now and then.

edit:
According to this excellent site, PAL releases are better than R1 releases quite often (1167 vs. 541):
http://www.michaeldvd.com.au/R4vsR1/R4vsR1.asp

You should not forget the stuff that comes originally from Europe.

Like some quality TV series made in England and availabe first on R2 DVD, many games and everything, that are released in Europe before US and rest of the world.

Even Japanese games companies have started to release their games in Europe, if not very close to the JP and US release dates, even before and/or often with added content.

With major releases in DVD, there have even been just one international release date, and the content has been exactly the same (LOTR, SW...).

Nowadays it is seldom that I feel jealous for americans or japanians (sp???) because of better support from entertainment companies.

True, and even the DTS track is often just a cheap re-coded carbon copy of the Dolby Digital track (situation same in R1 too). There really is few DVD's where the extras had been worth the extra money (LOTR and SW being the most obvious exceptions)

They have to wait to dub in haughty accents and put in some local dialogue so that people can understand, like calling a car truck a "boot" and using words like "hooligan" a lot. :p ;)
