Gamestop and associated stores not getting enough PS3 inventory

I'm good too. I preordered 2 game after that and put down an extra $400 on my PS3.
An EXTRA $400? So you're paying $1000 for your retail PS3?!! :p ;)

Best Buy is trying a nice trick - they are offering a 360 bundle with two games for those whose PS3 pre-orders they can't fill on day one.
Funny. Depending on your PS3 and the 360 they offer, then, those games could be $50, $00 or $150 apiece! :p

Maybe an extra 400 on top of his 100 dollar preorder? ;)

Yeah that's exactly what I did. I didn't want to pay the thing in full because I wanted to get that "paying for the PS3 on launch day" feeling.

Just walking up there and walking out with a bag with 0 money exchanged seems kinda boring. :???:

It's a bundle of buy a 360 and 2 games, and get a 3rd game for free.

And Best Buy doesn't do preorders.

Actually, Best Buy does do pre-orders, most people just don't know about it (including employees). At least they did with the 360, for Reward Zone members only (online only). Was a nice deal, and I was hoping they would do the same for the PS3. However, we (Reward Zone members) got shafted on that, and I'm glad I (reluctantly) went to EB for one when I found out at the very last minute. Heh, EB was my backup plan. :p

How to Bork a Launch in 10 Different Ways

I work at a walmart in a relatively small (bit more then 10k population) rural town. The walmart ad says minumun 10 ps3's per store, but that's wrong. A couple weeks back, we heard there'd probably be fewer ps3's then there were xbox 360's ...and this store only got 8 of those.

Now the latest rumor (a rumor which comes from management) is that we may get as few as 2 or 3 ps3's.

In spite of the small local population, we've been getting *many* calls per day about when it'll be out and how many we'll have. A lotta people are gonna be *really* pissed if we only have two.

I just hope they direct their pissiness at Sony rather then at all us poor shmucks working retail.

If nothing else, we could always direct them to the pallet displaying Xbox 360 peripherals and platinum games. :p

btw, this link seems appropriate for this thread.

I never got a call. I wonder if thats good or bad.

I didn't either so I called them..the guy would only say that I "probably" wouldn't be in on the launch shipment (I was #13 of 16 on their pre-order list). He was really cagey and would not directly answer any question, such as when I asked him how many they were gettin on the first shipment, he said he could not give out that information. Yet again he blatantly all but said I would not get one, and also that they knew exactly how many they would get.

So to sum up, they know exactly how many they are getting, I will "probably" not get one at #13, and no, they cant tell me how many they get.

I guess they want to avoid bad media publicity, maybe not give out secret corporate PS3 shipment #'s and string along pre-ordering customers that dont get in on launch shipment all in one fell swoop. I understand the motivations, but I dont care. It's still BS.

What a joke. Kind of pissed me off at gamestop. They beg you to pre-order then cant give you straight answers about your pre-order. Nice way to treat your customers.

The thing is there wasn't much lines for the gamestop pre-orders. I actually showed up 15 minutes after opening and got that #13. If I had actually showed up a whole 30 mins earlier, I might be sitting in a lot better shape, like #8, with little extra work. Sigh.

He did say I would prolly be 2nd shipment which he could only say was "before Christmas".

Were you going to ebay your PS3?

That's insane. Let's see what happens.

I wonder if all the fanguys complaining on the 360's launch will be back then too. :p

I'm no fanguy but I complained about the 360 launch quantities and will complain about the PS3 quantities too this year.

Another relevant link which clarifies a post from a bit ago:

http://www.psxextreme.com/ps3-news/480.html

According to Lazard analyst Colin Sebastian, citing retail checks as a source, retailers may only see 150,000 - 200,000 PS3s for launch day on November 17. If this is true, it means we're getting less than half of what Sony planned to ship.

To help clarify the issue further, PSX Extreme contacted a GameStop manager about the issue, and he did confirm that the North American launch shipment was cut from 400,000 to 200,000, which doesn't bode well for their preorders.
