As a sidenote, I would have liked to have seen an NFS in the same spirit as it debut on 3D0. They have taken the NFS series is many directions since then- some good, some bad. However, none of them seemed to have the same flavor as that first one. NFS2 was good, as well- worthy of a reprisal in spirit (with super-exotic cars that can be difficult, if not testy, to drive for better or worse design foibles).

I second that. The original Need for Speed was the best racer back then - track design unrivaled. It's a shame to see where EA took this series. :?

One game I'm still waiting for is a second PS2 version of Wipeout. :? Fusion was good, but had a few big flaws which would have been great to see gone in a second PS2 attempt.

Totally. I'd really buy a more polished version of the same game in fact. Not only generally more polished, but with ProScan support. Wipeout Fusion was field rendered and it just hurt the eyes. Also, slowdowns just have to go in a game like Wipeout.
the game was fantastic, i still remember the "jump" in one of the tracks, when u fall for a long time and can see the entire track/city underneath, engulfed in fog. Amazing.

Updates for Tribes or Descent would be sweet.

Oh yes Descent was fantastic! used to give me a hell of a headache and even nightmares (dont ask) but it was such a great game!!!

Descent, is probably my favorite game of all time. Kinda tough to decide as I absolutely love all the Wing Commander Kilrathi series, but I played Descent2 way more because of online/KALI. Never got Descent3, never had a machine fast enough to play it.

I played a lot of Tribes too, but I had a lot more passion for Descent2.

Another vote for Exo from Particle Systems

Outcast 2 from Appel

Dreamland Chronicles: Freedom Ridge from Mythos Games (Continuation of the X-com series from creator Julian Gollop.

Good Cop, Bad Cop from Revolution.

The Lost from Irrational Games

Fear Effect 3 from Kronos Digital

Ferrari 360 Challenge - Brain In A Jar (Aborted by Acclaim because they didn't really have the licence. Game Engine was used for Indy Racing game.)

Gunslinger from Surreal

These all made it to E3, magazine preview stage, a lot might have even had playable demos.

Most were already mentioned:

Colony Wars (already forgot about this great game)
Too Human
Vandal Hearts
Parasite Eve

And just because im in a good mood ill think of one game myself: Elite 4

Too Human
Pilot Wings
Unity
the cancelled Retro stuff (Ravenblade, Thunder cars...)
Mario 128 :?:

Z.O.E : why the Hell isn’t a third chapter out yet?! Or even announced?!

Gex : a groovy gecko with an attitude! Loved the costume change for each level.

Roll Cage : WipeOut’s only competitor!

Twisted Metal: the king of car-combat, why are you in the dark? What if PSP wasn’t around?
Rollcage was also made by Psygnosis. It only had one game, and didn't do so well, so I'd hardly call it a competitor to WipEout.

Twisted Metal got TWO updates with Twisted Metal Black, and Twisted Metal Black Online.

Games I would have liked to have seen is "Everything-Rare-Announced-This-Generation+Killer-Instinct-3+A-Captain-Skyhawk-Sequel", Factor 5's "Thornado", "Mario 128", a "Warhawk" sequel, "Street Fighter 4", "Carmageddon 4", and a "Halo 2" that took place in the same universe as the novels.

A lot of people have been clamoring for Kid Icarus.

Hey, Ninja Gaiden got brought back as a GOTY-caliber title. Metroid Prime wasn't only GOTY-caliber, it was IMO the GOTY.

Kid Icarus isn't any worse a concept!

Some of these answers are a little messed up, BTW. Mario got his 128-bit sequel in SMS, Tribes Vengeance is a Tribes sequel.

Obscure titles like Earthbound are obvious choices; Mother 3 is in limbo now. Duke Nukem is a good pick, seeing as how DNF was announced. (and appeared on N64/PS1) On a final note, a sequel to Dark Savior with a focus more on "LandStalker sequel" would be killer. TimeStalkers doesn't count!

I was totally looking forward to The Lost, the concept sounded awesome, it´s a terrible shame it didn´t came out.

I also want my PSX FF remakes you promised me, Square!! :devilish:

But you know what I miss the most? A Parasite Eve sequel. PE1 was one of my favorite titles on PSOne (and thought Aya Brea was really, really hot  ), and I was sure we would see a new one this gen. :(

Phantasy Star V

(although I suppose one cannot rule out the ~40 hour offline RPG in Phantasy Star Universe)

Daytona USA 2

(Daytona USA 2001 on Dreamcast was good, but very very very disappointing not to see Daytona 2, or even a proper exact port of the original Daytona dispite the fact that the Dreamcast renditions look better overall...the look and feel of the original was still missing)

Herzog Zwei, Military Madness sequels

(Advance Wars and all other turn based and real time strategy games this generation just didn't cut it)

Street Fighter 4

(come on Capcom!)

Super Mario Sunshine is an altogether separate entity from Mario 128. The title was rumored since the Gamecube was called the Dolphin, and when the GC was first shown, it had a "Mario 128" tech demo (a.k.a. "100 Marios") that was supposed to be Miyamoto's little joke for the fans. With Mario Sunshine getting a lukewarm response, Miyamoto revealed that he had been working on another Mario title that was supposed to be as revolutionary to the series as Mario 64. That game was the "official" Mario 128, and it's development history has been documented in a few places, that I'm feeling too lazy at the moment to Google up.

Rollcage was also made by Psygnosis. It only had one game, and didn't do so well, so I'd hardly call it a competitor to WipEout.
There were two Rollcage games, and RC is faster, fiercer and much crazier than Wipeout.

Where did Psygnosis go by the way? I loved there sign!

Twisted metal.. What if PSP wasn't around u ask?... Well, PSP is around so

TM was out in 2001 I think. that is about 4 years ago. why aren't they announcing anything? heck Avalon is an announced nex-gen game that will feautre car-combat (whether a feature or a full concept). Ubi also announced a pure car-combat game solely on next gen.

and about if PSP wasn't around; PSP resurected many forgotton games like Wipeout (and what's with that one as well?), Ridge Racer, and TM.

where's the LOVE people?!
and TM had alwase had great stories and ending to each character. gotta love those 'twisted' endings, some are even emotionally deep, like Axel's

Perhaps the reason those franchises had been forgotten on the PS2 is precisely because Sony wanted something exciting for the PSP? A new platform also presents a great opportunity to revive a franchise that's seen better days (as Wipeout certainly had). As for Psygnosis, Sony bought them out for the launch of the original Playstation and the studio they morphed into (SCEE Liverpool) is the one responsible for Wipeout Pure.

Did someone mention Too Human yet? It's bad when it get cancelled in two successive generations; or maybe not cancelled in the PSX era but at least moved over into next-gen territory and then cancelled.

Or are they still working on it?
Not really. The game was so old they canned it and started production on its sequel.

Sequel to what, if the first one was never released!
