Games that did not appear this generation

It's rolling to a close, and do you take a moment of pause, and think, "Hey, what happened to game xyz???" What games from earlier generations do you regret did not (seemingly will not) make a reprisal appearance this generation?

Personally, I feel disappointed that Colony Wars did not come back for PS2. Yeah, it was a series that was rapidly headed down hill in its sequels of the PSX days. What I really would have liked to have seen was an honest in spirit attempt of the very first Colony Wars. A dozen times over I would have given up all that Star Wars franchise junk if I could have had another Colony Wars space opera, instead.

G-Police would have been nice, too, but I am not necessarily bothered by its absence.

I think another homage to Aliens for PS2 would have been sweet (but only because I'm a huge freak over that topic...and no, an orthagonal RPG of Aliens vs. Predators is not what I had in mind).

Pulling from waaaaaay back, I would have been overjoyed to see Space Hulks (from the 3DO days) make an appearance this generation.

As a sidenote, I would have liked to have seen an NFS in the same spirit as it debut on 3D0. They have taken the NFS series is many directions since then- some good, some bad. However, none of them seemed to have the same flavor as that first one. NFS2 was good, as well- worthy of a reprisal in spirit (with super-exotic cars that can be difficult, if not testy, to drive for better or worse design foibles).

Well, that's all I have off the top of my head. Please post in your "regretful absences of the generation".

Warhawk.

I bought my PS2 on the promise from Sony that this would be one of the first release games. And if not a release game, would definitely make it out in the first 6 months. It still hasn't shown up. When I realized it wasn't going to show up, I sold my PS2 to my brother. This game was one of the premier games of the PS1/N64/Saturn generation, and it's a shame it didn't get an update.

If they release a competant sequel with PS3, Sony will have another buyer.

Wouldnt mind some of the following game franchises:
Lemmings
Discworld
Sam and Max
Wing Commander (yeah the movie kinda ruined it :p )
Vagrant Story
Bomberman (maybe ive been hiding under a rock but i don't remember any from this generation)

Game franchises I'm glad they brought back:
Metroid
Prince of Persia

I'm sure there are more to be added to that list, but my mind has gone blank.

I was actually kinda well....hoping for DN4 (which was rumoured to be considered for consoles)

lol, firewarrior wasn't good enough for you? i will agree, space hulk was amazing. the up close, super detailed melee combat was rediculous for it's time.

games i miss this gen:
jumping flash
burning rangers
a first person shinning game (shining in the darkness, shinning the holy arc)
return fire
anything from warp (of D and enemy zero fame)

Bomberman had several releases this generation, at least 2 or 3.
BTW, am I the only one who liked bomberman 64's multiplayer mode? Besides better graphics, its arenas had a level of complexity that's nonexistant in every other bomberman.

I agree:

Vagrant Story
Parasite Eve

Even some "Very Old" game updates would be nice. Battle Toads which didnt get much press but was very amusing and had a ton of fun with co-op :)

Got to agree with 3D0 NFS, that was one of my favorite racing games ever! Love the idea of not racing round a circuit but instead through all sorts of terrain with traffic. Also for it's time the artwork was fantastic.

A 3D0 Space Hulk update would be nice, even on the PC.

And of course Return Fire, maybe even an on-line version :) Team based even :D

Tobal; the second installment, which wasn't released outside of Japan, is imo the best fighting game after Tekken 3, and spanks anything released in recent years.

Parasite Eve; even though I only played the first one, and never completed it because I got tired of watching the extremely long FMV before the last boss that you couldn't skip, it was a really cool game.

Vandal Hearts; only played the first game here too, but it was a great strategy game which was far superior to the lacklustre FF tactics imo.

One more, not really a console game, well it's not at all a console game but an update to the X-Wing, Tie Fighter, X-Wing Alliance series which I think would work on the current or forth comming consoles quite well.

Z.O.E : why the Hell isn’t a third chapter out yet?! Or even announced?!

Gex : a groovy gecko with an attitude! Loved the costume change for each level.

Roll Cage : WipeOut’s only competitor!

Twisted Metal: the king of car-combat, why are you in the dark? What if PSP wasn’t around?

Well, about ZOE, i thought there was word on a third episode before next gen, but seeing how ZOE2 pushed the PS2, i'm not sure they could ever better that one technically, i still think it's probably up there in the top5 most demanding games on the PS2 architecture.

Twisted metal.. What if PSP wasn't around u ask?... Well, PSP is around so... ;)

Vandal Hearts.

Loved that on the PSX, with it's overblow stupidly melodramatic story and the inventive battle scenarios. Not so keen on the sequel, but still enjoyed playing it.

I guess it would've brought nothing to the PS2, but I'd love to see it on my shiny new PSP...

Exo: it was canned some time after featuring Edge's cover: the concept seemed interesting and the art looked great.

Did someone mention Too Human yet? It's bad when it get cancelled in two successive generations; or maybe not cancelled in the PSX era but at least moved over into next-gen territory and then cancelled.

Or are they still working on it?

What was Too Human to be about anyway? What kind of game was it planned to be?
I don't remember seeing much else about it but those couple of demos with some bug in the woods.
