The developers drew inspiration from multiple media. The set-up and the game's foundation was inspired by Heart of Darkness, whose story reveals the changes a person undergoes in chaotic times.

YMMV, but I think Yahtzee gave it a nod of respect for what it was trying to do.

Having said that, color me intrigued by Coppola maybe doing something like this.

Rather vague about exactly what it's supposed to be and seems unlikely to reach its 900K goal.
