Forza 5 [XO] *large pics inside*

I think the aliasing depends on the view; DF mentioned it was a particular issue with the cockpit view.

They should have targeted 900p with 2xMSAA + FXAA instead. And with some proper anisotropic filtering to boot.

I respectfully disagree. Ask a fan about Forza5's technical strength. Most will answer "it's 1920*1080, and it does this at 60fps!!", they don't really care about image quality (just as they don't think reflections, weather, realtime lighting, volumetric smoke, etc are technical achievements or requirements for a 2013 racing game on a 8th gen platform).
So good AF as wel as less aliasing, will be wasted on them. And MS / Turn10 will lose a pretty big PR selling point. They will never market "1500*900 2xMSAA / 60fps !!"

When you are playing you never ever notice it nor look at it, from personal experience.

The cockpit view is extraordinary. Best cockpit view in any racing game to date for me -and I've played a few!!!!-.

Everything comes naturally to me when playing the game with that view, while in other racers I usually resorted to bumper, hood, and even 3rd person camera at times.

As I said, I don't know if it is because of how real the reflections on the windshield are or whatever, but I am topping myself.

I barely played 4-5 hours and I am getting the handle of the game, giving Expert drivatars a run for their money and in Road Atlanta I am placed at 3500 in the leaderboards.

Road Atltanta has the best lighting to show the cockpit view.

I recorded my first Xbox One video, yay!

I uploaded it to Skydrive using Upload Studio and then I uploaded I to Youtube.

I called it "Close calls in Forza 5" because now that I am much, much better at calculating distances, I can drive closer to walls and other cars before crashing on them.

That 28 seconds video show how I pushed the limits four times or so.

I am really having some issues with some of the rental car handling setups, they suck! I have not been able to get far into the campaign mode, but I want to play around with all the different cars and tracks, only to see how limited the rental selection is.

On a side note I wish a console game would come closer to what SimBin can put out, I love playing RaceRoom and hunting for tenths of a second.

Hey That some neat driving :D ! DO you use a wheel or is that the controller? I am trying in GT6, but am nowhere close to what you here and Arwin drive like. I am only good in chasing times in empty track :p heh heh !

More vidoes please. Also, can you do a Fullscreen video? without that framing n all? Just asking?

Tried SMAA 1x medium (cheap) on Forza 5...

SMAA 1x (medium settings) could do wonders on Forza 5 (first image original aliased Eurogamer image):

No more fuzzy FXAA please when such cheap & sharp AA exists.

Thanks for the feedback RenegadeRocks. Sorry for the framing, it's the consequence of trying to add some "professional" effects with Upload Studio and being my first video ever, I paid for my noobishness.

I don't have a wheel for now, it's the controller. There are 3 options for the controller, Assisted, something somewhere in the middle whose name I can't recall, and unassisted, which I use and it's the closest thing to playing with a wheel -never the same though, not even close- but you are more likely to screw it up in some places -there are a series of bends in Bathurst where I lose control of the car once every two laps-.

As for sharing more videos, I will -it is Unlisted, which means that only the people with the link can watch it- whenever I can and if there is something interesting I would like to add.

The video can be seen at higher quality in my Skydrive account.

As for the driving, it's coming naturally to me in Forza 5 with the new cockpit view. This is the best Forza to date yet.

I understand the complaints about the absence of many cars, but for a launch title I think they delivered offering high quality cars for every model they included in the retail game.

The new gamepad also helps -only the LB and RB buttons aren't as good as they are in the Xbox 360 controller- because the feedback of the LT and RT buttons makes you feel the closest to having a FF wheel, you can "notice" the bumps, the skids, braking, etc, etc.

There is no secret really, other than the fact I can calculate the distances better like in real life, but it mostly comes down to the camera view and probably the depth of it because the windshield feels like it is actually there.

In fact, I am not training nor playing countless hours. I just feel very comfortable with the game from the very first moment I played it.

Aside from that the 60 fps seem to feel smoother now than in my Xbox 360, in games like Forza and CoD -but I don't have an explanation for this, it's probably my mind playing tricks on me-

Perhaps when they unlock the extra 10% of the GPU for games they could use better AA and AF, but trust me that the aliasing is not annoying at all, and you don't notice it when you are playing because you are focused on the road.

Yeah, it's the same price of a PS4 here in the States. Which is why I think there are not many people using a wheel on Forza 5 or XB1.

Tommy McClain

It reads like the reason for not buying the wheel is because people are buying PS4s :p

But I understand, it's the same price as a whole console. I guess it's a pretty steep investment.

with some luck some cheaper wheels will become available.
perhaps some of the existing wheels will be upgraded with drivers for the latest consoles or is it the games have to be written to support a specific wheel (not sure how it works in console land)
the xbox 1 wheel is also pc compatible, and there are some cheaper wheels out for the ps4

he he, and if someone has 90000 pounds you can always buy this wheel, which is sheer awesomeness.

I'd give Forza 5 a 9 but one of the positives of the game according to this review says something interesting which I completely agree with.

Trigger feedback is a game changer.

Microsoft has such a horrible, horrible track record here, I am not keeping my hopes up. I am seriously considering becoming a one console guy (have had all Xbox-en so far) if I'd have to buy yet another wheel (I already have a few Logitech and the official Microsoft Wheel).

Cant say that the difference is that large. Diminishing returns?

Actually I think the difference is larger than expected. You need to watch better feeds though - I think Eurogamer has something similar, but better quality.

However, what this video does to great effect is show that Turn10 is flat-out lying about the rework they did on the car models. In this video they've picked some car models that clearly have not done any work on them at all.

Agreed about PGR3 by the way, that was a great game, and looked great too, even if it was upscaled, the lighting was great, and I was disappointed that the lighting actually got worse in PGR4.

They laser scanned all (real-life) tracks as well, supposedly. Was that confirmed to be true btw?

PGR3 still brings a tear to my eye though
PGR3 was one of my launch titles, after playing PGR2 from 2004 to 2005 I thought I HAD to have that game. I loved to take a look at the cars in the garage, sheer next gen.

Oblivion was the first game that had the words next generation written all over it for me. But PGR3 showed the differences were clear.

So do CoD Ghosts /the textures are insane/  , BF4, and especially Ryse.

Ryse with no aliasing and such a complex architecture /some statues are a sight to behold, could pass for the real life thing/, plus Marius face in-game, which feels like you are looking at an actual person.... shows a generational difference. I don't think the Xbox 360 could run Marius alone because of the lack of memory.

Arwin, I am almost sure they didn't reuse any assets /Autovista is available for every car, that is the most striking difference that tells they had to rework all the assets/.

The tracks are and feel very different from Forza 4. All the classic tracks are "difficult" to recognise at first. Some tracks feel wider, other have new elements, and so on and so forth.
