Forza 4

Yea, I don't know why I sometimes even go for them as I rarely get an awful lot of milage out of the pre-order bonuses, especially those that are MP focused.

Anyway, on this occasion I just pre-ordered the standard edition bundled with the (shite looking) Speed Wheel for just £10 more than the LE game on its own would have cost. My 3yr old can at least play with the latter, as he's been trying the Cars demo these last few days and just cannot get the hang of the 360 controller.

Anyhow, can't wait till Friday! (released on the 14th in the UK) :)

Cars 2 is a pretty good game if you're in the market for a different type of racer.

Slightly off topic, but this is possibly the most moving piece of film ever made. (if you are a car guy)
Clarkson tests the Aston Martin V12 Vantage

PS. If a mod could embed the video i would appreciate it.

Bah, they've said that before and cars jsut keep getting better and better. He's being way too melodramatic. Plus hybrid electric/gas sports cars should eventually be able to outperform all gas only sport cars one day. I'm sure we'll see better stuff ahead.

You are of course quite right :) And I agree that sometime in the near future the hybrid cars will outperform the normal sport cars. Not sure the super/hyper cars will be surpassed soon, but eventually they will be beaten too. As for clarkson being too melodramatic, I don't know, I think it's just Clarkson being Clarkson :)

I think it's a cool video and I think it's conveying the same sentiment that Forza is trying to convey. (that there are more and more safety regulations and fewer and fewer places in the world where you can take your sports/super/hyper car and just drive it like it's meant to be driven)

Anyway, my intention was not to derail this thread into a discussion about health and safety in the car world :)
So let the Forza 4 discussion resume.

Played some Forza 3 online the other day, and one thing I hope is possible in Forza 4 is to sett up custom lobby's where the car selection is limited to non tuned cars. The reason I say this is that there are always going to be people that has the time, knowledge and experience to tune and tweak a car to be as good as unbeatable compared to the more causal online racers. (I have been playing console racers since GT1 and think of myself as a fairly competent player, but I don't have the time and patience to tune and tweak a car to be perfectly suited to every track, so I will always be at a disadvantage, and that takes some of the fun out of racing online. IMO)

They should have been already. The thing is, the car companies are deliberately moving towards that direction slower than they should.

In terms of electric cars, there are certain unpleasant realities around the weight of batteries that make them great at acceleration, but not so awesome at handling or practicality (see: the Tesla Roadster).

There's really no excuse for the glacial pace of hydrogen-based car development at this point, though.

Well, the current administration in the US put the lid on Hydrogen fuel cell based cars by defunding research for them while boosting government dollars for electric cars. Basically reversing the trend set by the previous administration.

Basically throwing all the money at an evolutionary dead end for car transportation. We'd have been far better off if those same dollars had been invested into research into making Hydrogen easier to produce.

That would lead to higher performance cars compared to today as opposed to electric and electric hybrid. I'll never buy an electric car as I buy a car with the expectation that it'll be running without major overhalls (complete battery replacement for example) in 10-20 years (current everyday commute vehicle is 15 years old and running just peachy with regular maintanance).

SB

OT= the US economy is partially dependent and the auto industry counts on a vehicle being turned over to new every 3-6 years.

Battery replacement should not be overestimated. For instance, the only Prius' battery replacements in Australia were at 333.000 and 500.000 km respectively. Could be different for plugin hybrid, but still that's pretty good. In the Netherlands, there have been 0 battery replacements so far, and there are a lot of these cars here due to tax benefits for this type of car.

Back on topic: is the Forza 4 demo up now for Silver as well? I'll have a look tomorrow.

Until the 7th, normally.

Uhm, hi consollers. I come in peace.

This is one of the only Xbox games I've ever been tempted to buy solely for myself, could y'all help me decide if it's worth it?

I'm only interested in this game due to the Top Gear track, so I need a TG fan to tell me how it is please....is it worth it?

Thanks in advance, I hope not to offend anyone.

The one area where the consoles have the PC beat in almost all respects is the racing genre imho (unless you're really into hardcore sims, but then you'll still like the big console titles like Forza 4 and GT5). And Forza not only has Top Gear, but the Kia Ceed ... what else can you hope for. :)

I'd say go for it. I may get it as well, just because I'm such a big fan. I never ended up playing Forza 3 as much as I expected, but it's a great racer and the Forza 4 demo at GamesCom felt good (not too simmy but good enough and definitely good for you ;) ).

I say go for it, and join the Beyond3D car club and you could be our first "Star in a reasonably priced car" :)

Having never played GT5, and thus not actually driven a facsimile of the TG test track before, I was surprised at how much trickier some of the turns are than I expected based on the way the turns look as they shoot them in the show.

Chicago in particular is *really* easy to just screw up completely. Hammerhead meanwhile is not shaped even remotely the way you'd think (and is less difficult than I expected as a result).

Regardless, the game is quite fun. I picked it up on early release last night and sank a good 5 hours in to it. I'm still not entirely sure how that happened...

Just got mine today, was gonna get it cheaper from a buddy at Microsoft but it was just sitting there on the shelf at Frys so I went for it :) Got two more games along with it so I got me some installing to do.

Got hosed by amazon my release day delivery will be here tomorrow according to both ups and amazon. I'm hoping it's just a really late delivery tonight.

Gives me some time to practice :) We haven't had a good rivalry in a while, maybe the Rivals mode in F4 will create some good competition.

It could be worse. My Walmart "release day guarantee" is slated for delivery 10/16 (i.e. Sunday which means Monday). :devilish: And I have Thur-Sun off so I am major bummed! I am hoping they can correct the issue but the scans from UPS are showing it in New York! And they refused my request to have it shipped local when I noticed they had not-shipped but changed my del. date to 10/18-11/3  Their solution was to ignore their website as they confirmed I should get my games on the release date (I did the pre-order 3 get $50 back deal). That shows me for every shopping at Wally World!

Btw, I hope we can run some laps together Nav. I am looking forward to the Kinect integration
