Formula 1 - The Eco Friendly Motorsport!

Based on the car being next to the tire wall which mean you only have to lift it like 3 meters at best and not carry it around the whole gravel while there was still a change of cars spinning out of that same corner (liuzzi).
Again, most of the time you can't just lift it over the tire wall because of the debris fence, you have to take it to an opening.

I ment RS (raf schumacher).
His car was damaged by the shunt.

Maybe I didnt understand the rule but wasnt it supposed to be so that all cars got in the right order but not necesserely in the same lap or in one big line? So hamilton passes the safetycar so he's not in the way of other drivers but they dont wait untill he completely catched up.
Irrespective of what it is "supposed" to be the rule is evidently just that lapped cars can unlap themselves under the safety car. The stewards ultimately agreed that this was the case as they let Hamilton do it, the issue was they took their time doing it (they already had done three laps under the safety car).

Sigh... Well in this case it would have been easier as there wasnt a fence.

hamiltons nose got damaged to. Besides some damage to the side of the car doesnt really matter. It would have gone slower maybe but the toyota's are already slow anyway.

They took their time? as far as I know you can start taking over once the safety car comes on the track.

Looks like a debris fence right behind the tire wall to me, certianly not the space to fit a car into.

He stopped before hitting the barrier. The car was running and undamaged.

It was clear that what took the time was the clarification of the rule - even though they felt they were right (as pointed out on the BBC coverage: "McLaren are claiming that Hamilton is definitely not a lap down. Let's see how things pan out.") McLaren would have been checking with the FIA / stewards that they weren't going to get penalised. You are correct that he should have been able to take back his lap as soon as the SC came out (or one the SC has collected all the cars, I believe the rule is) but it seems that didn't happen because of the time spent clarifying with the stewards.

Hamilton "nerfed" the barrier, not very hard mind you.

Watching it in the numerous replays you can see it quite clearly, he nudges it and goes backwards a little bit.

Hungary GP is just a few days away! Here's hoping for another rainy race, like last year! :D

Maybe Jenson can win again? ;)

What a dramatic end to the qualifier! Did Alonso deliberately hold up Hamilton? If so it was very naughty..

Will it rain today? Oh, and Ferrari are having problems; Kimi was outpaced by a BMW and Massa failed to enter Q1..

Edit: Formula1.com reports that Alonso has been demoted to 6th after impeding Hamilton. Hamilton is on pole.

I thought what Alonso did was completely unsportsman-like and brought the sport into disrepute. The explanation from Maclaren that it was caused by Lewis putting the cars out of sequence and thus having to wait while Alonso's engineer counted him down before leaving the pits was belied directly after the incident by the angry reaction of Ron Dennis and the engineers screaming at Alonso do get going instead of sitting still for an extra 10 seconds to block Lewis. If this was a planned countdown, then Dennis would have known about it instead of storming off the pitwall.

The stewards didn't believe it either, docking Alonso five places and ruling that Maclaren will not make any constructors points from this race.

Alonso's punishment is fair, I suppose, but docking the team is really harsh IMHO. They have appealed the decision so we'll have to see.

What is wrong with Massa? He is totally off pace.. I'm not a fan, but I expected him to do better.

Ferrari have not been able to get his car set up right, and then they sent him out without enough fuel for the qualifying and he got knocked out early, so he's started down the grid.

I think Dennis's reaction was a cumination of things. Evidently Lewis was swearing at him in the early burn off laps when he was being told to move over. I think Ron knew that this would create tension with Alonso and Alonso's, puerile, move (or lack of it) was the end result.

Funny, though, that Alonso said that he waited for a further 10 seconds "becuase he was checking if the team had the right tires on" - a.) there was no radio traffic talking about that, b.) there's a big white stripe (or not) perfectly visible to even the driver with the current rules. Sorry Alonso, you're caught flat out lying there. He then had the gall to say at the end of the race that he was faster and Hamilton over the weekend, which clearly wasn't the case on Saturday.

I had actually read that they put used tires on alonso's car, and that is what he was asking about.

I wondered if there was any radio traffic to back that up.

The FIA / stewards have all the radio data available to them, so they would have heard that if so.

dont know what coverage you get but ITV picked up on it alonso's trainer was signalling to alonso from the pit wall, that why ron grabbed him

Very interesting fallout after the Hungarian GP...

Apparently it was Hamilton that complained (unofficically) to the stewards after the team stiffed him with Alonso's pit box stunt. Not too popular at McLaren ATM, esp after words with the team boss. Real clever...

This & McLarengate have done wonders for F1 publicity, though...

I don't think Hamilton really cares what McLaren think.

He is the star of Formula one and if they "sack" him, he'll jump into Ferraris car at a moments notice.

Rumour has it they are already thinking about it anyway.

It maybe true that Hamilton didn't let Alonso pass him as the team ordered him to, but Alonso is such a child he would've tried to screw Hamilton in some way anyway, which I find hilarious considering the shit storm he created last year when Schumacher did it to him.

He should. They're employing him. Opportunistic though they be, you'll find the other teams have noted this incident. It's done him nothing other than harm. The Q3 pit incident was supposedly team coordinated for not following orders. Ron Dennis threw off his headphones due to Lewis' petulance. Such intrigues - and it's his rookie year...

No chance while Todt is there, apparently. End of season, who knows...

He's already denied that claim. He was seen talking to an FIA official as he was going into the press conference (which isn't necessarily unusual) but he says that he didn't really discuss the blocking issue.
