Formula 1 - The Eco Friendly Motorsport!

So the most unexpected thing happened today, who would have predicted that Raikonnen would become WC. But I am happy for him, it was long due for him. He is like Rahul Dravid, always calm and composed unlike his more flamboyant counterparts.

Yeah, well deserved. He could have (should have?) won in 2005 and was only foiled by the fragile nature of the McLaren that year.

Now we have two world champions on the grid and next year will be very interesting and hopefully at least as good as this one without all the politicking and spying.

Also, Spyker F1 will be renamed Force India for 2008. :D

Yeah, next year 'll be interesting. I also feel sorry for Hamilton, had he won it would have been an astonishing feat (it is still an astonishing feat for a new driver) to win a WC in his first attempt. It was like South Africa's harakiri against Australia in 1999 WC. Sooo close yet so faaar...how did he react in the press conferance must be feeling devastated. How did Alonso and Raikonnen react?

And yepp, I read about Force India annoucement, in a few years we could have a GP in New Delhi if things go well.

Alonso seemed happy to beat Hamilton in the race and not have Hamilton win the WC.

Räikkonen actually smiled! It was magical. :D

I'm sure Kimi will get smashed tonight. ;)

No, Hamilton had some gearbox trouble and dropped to 18th, he raced and overtook and ended up in P7. Alonso came in third. The Ferraris were unstoppable today.

Troubles, and before that driving out twice (once quite a lot, 2nd time only car width or so in one corner) which dropped him to... 8th I think? Before the gear troubles

Yep, he made a mistake and dropped to eight and then he had the troubles. Still a heroic season for Hamilton.

Guys, guess what? I totally remembered at the last minute the race was going to be on. I haven't been so excited about a formula one race since the 90s.

It was one really memorable tv moment. Up there with things like Finland winning the eurovision song contest, Finland winning the 1995 hockey world championship, and of course Häkkinen's two F1 championships.

I really didn't believe for a second that this could actually happen until like when there was like 3 laps remaining.

Imagine my horror of seeing Rosberg battle it out against Heidfeldt and Kubica during the last 10 laps. Should two of them have knocked each other out and Hamiltolton would have been the champion and Räikkönen would have been soooo close but lost again, like he did in 2003 and 2005.

It's really amazing. I'm so happy guys, it's emotional, I think I'm going to actually cry. I need beer... but gotta work tomorrow... ok, not so happy anymore :D

Hamilton's mechanical trouble at Brazil was out of his hands, but it wouldn't be a problem if he'd won the championship in China, where he made a mistake that he could have avoided.

When it comes right down to it, Raikkonen scored more points, and actually had a really good second half of the season (somewhat overshadowed by all the politics and problems at Mclaren). Raikkonen in the end, ran a better campaign for the championship.

OMG!! HELL YEAH!!!!111!!!

What a wonderful day it turned out to be...
Everything had to fall into right places and to my great amazement everything did. Ferrari were head and shoulders above the rest today and reliability issues finally caught Hamilton.

Hamilton lost the championship in China, and I'm of course happy that he did lose it, but on the other hand I must give big rispect to him, amazing season for him as well. The entire season was like no other with everything that was going on and at the end we have three drivers within a one single point. How amazing that the one who had that extra point is the flying Finnish Iceman! who was 17 points behind Hamilton when only two races remained, how amazing is that, come on really?!

Kimi had to fight a hard battle to get to this point, he didn't came from a rich background or anything like that, his family took a big gamble with him and it naturally paid off long time ago, but this is the crown for this triumphant campaign :)

What an amazing battle, I hope next year will also offer us great motorsporting moments!

edit: the final 10 laps seemed to last a lifetime and it was horrible to watch Heidfeld, Rosberg and especially Kubica battling it out during the closing stages. I was also wondering why Trulli pitted 7 laps before the end, because it was very short stint for him.

Shame if Hamilton won the title this way.

They should be thrown out of the race though, maybe they wouldn't have been so fast if they hadn't done it and Hamilton would've caught and passed them.

It would be a perfect end to the most bonkers of seasons. It's not like they can sanction them for the next race, so it would seem disqualification for an out of spec car is possible.

I don't see they can treat them as Mclaren (where there is no evidence of an illegal car). The fuel made the cars illegal - that's already fact.

aargh! this whole season has been so painful!

I have to ask, if this had happened earlier in the season would anyone expect driver+team NOT to be disqualified (didn't something similar happen to Button - being light on fuel ??) There's an apparent competitive advantage to having fuel that's below the cooling limit - especially over three stops.

If Hamilton had pulled it off and then his fuel sample failed there would no doubt be a huge call for him to be docked points.

It's a big mess and I can't see what the FIA can do while still keeping F1 sane. Perhaps there is mitigation in that the temps in Brazil were hottest of the F1 season and if you're measuring 10 below ambient, who's ambient is that ??

If points are lost I can see williams and bmw starting next season with a negative offset, thus allowing Kimi to retain the title.

Now if they should really disqualify them and make Hamilton a champion, I'll be done with F1 for good definitely. As you know, I work for Mercedes, but I'd be ashamed of such a "win".
