For You PSP Users: Location Free Base Station - Nice Sale

I thought I'd share this with my fellow PSP owners. Amazon has a sale on the LF-PK1 Location Free bundle (for PSP and PC) for $100. It is the LF-B1 base station, which, currently, is the only Location Free base station with a built-in tuner. I don't see it on SonyStyle.com anymore, so, I'm guessing they're phasing this model out. I know this isn't exactly PSP related, but I thought there might be others out there interested in this mainly (or solely) for its PSP functionality (otherwise, a SlingBox might be a better choice). I ordered one last Thursday, and it should be delivered today. I'll share my impressions if anyone is interested.

I don't have acrobat installed anymore.

:p

What exactly is this thing?

It allows you to stream media (from an external source) to your PC (w/ the appropriate software), and more importantly, your PSP. You can do so locally, via its built-in WiFi adapter, or by going through a router. You can also configure it so that you can access it from anywhere as long as you have the software installed on your PC or have access to a hotspot w/ your PSP. It has an NTSC tuner for standard UHF/VHF and cable signals, as well as to composite video inputs (+1 s-video). If you're using the built-in tuner, you'll control the channels via the on-screen remote. If you're using an external device (DVD player, Cable Box) that goes into one of the video inputs, the IR-blaster will allow you to control the device remotely. Just some FYI :
  • Requires updated PSP firmware (2.50+).
  • Requires a broadband connection w/ 300Kbps+ upload speed (for WAN access)
  • Only 1 person can connect a time.
  • If your router is not UPnP compatible, it has to support port forwarding to get things working (for WAN access).
Basically, it lets you watch TV on your PSP (and PC). :D And it has a built-in tuner so you can split the coax cable going into your TV/Cable box into your Base Station and TV/Box. You would loose any functionality the cable box gives you, such as digital channels, premium channels, etc, but you would not have to worry about interrupting someone else's TV viewing when you connect to the Base Station.
