Why couldn't they achieve 1080p for such graphically undemanding game ?

What?

You do realize it renders each blade of grass individually, right? Not to mention the team behind the game is rather small, and doesn't consist of 100+ individuals.

200,000 grass blades...one of the most impressive looking downloadable games. I believe they wanted the highest resolution possible that would sitll look good when upscaled to 1080p. They chose 810by1440

They could, but an adminstration error caused this. Someone incorrectly typed '1080' for the target resolution in the design docs, typing instead '0810' which appeared as '810' in the numerical field. That's why it's such a weird vertical resoution.

Comedy gold :p

Thanks for the interview, deepbrown. I like it a lot (muahaha).

Patsu asks: When will Jenova Chen be talking to Hayao Miyazaki about making a Studio Ghibli game? ThatGameCompany's creations are very similar in essence to Miyazaki's work. Camp outside his office if they have to, ThatGameCompany might be one of the few teams Miyazaki would allow to touch his work.

Kellee: Jenova says he will have to learn Japanese first. =)

Send a copy of the Flower gameplay video to Studio Ghibli. I'd be surprised if their guys haven't played it yet. I have seen manga/anime luminaries share ideas with young artists because they understand the importance of grooming the next gen. The language barrier can be easily worked around in the short term. It will take time to build relationships anyway. Come on, let's do it before it's too late. :p

Awesome interview, thanks deep!

And wow, 200.000 individual blades of grass! That's 10x what I thought!

We had a nice little cloudy day yesterday, so I decided to play flower again...man, it just makes me anxious for a really good thunderstorm so I can hop into flower and open a window to smell the rain falling...EPIC!

I'll have to remember to read the interview when I get home, it's blocked here at work...like everything else, lol.

I've only played 2 levels of this beautiful, relaxing game. I tend to only use my left hand to control this game, thumb pushing on a stick for variable speed. Right hand would be idle. Very few games are relaxing and simple enough for me to play this way.

Didn't know that, I'm sorry.

They chose 810by1440

Hmm, how's that rendering mode supported ? So it's vertically downscaled to 1080 and horizontally scaled by the hardware scaler ?
