/slaps swaaye for criticizing Hot Pursuit 2 possibly the best one in the series
He was referring to the other versions.. I remember when the game came out, the reviews were pretty clear that the PS2 version was far and away better than the other two console versions (not sure about the PC version). The Xbox version suffered from severe slowdown and framerate dips and the GC version had no sense of speed, something that really stood out on the PS2 version. That game hauls ass.

yes but if he needs to critisize nfs theres underground, underground2, carbon + pro street
no need to pick on hot pursuit2...

i know some folks like those games though so I'm not spewing forth my opinion of them. but yea, they don't have much content that interests me at all.

Yeah that's what I was getting at. The PC version actually has a framerate stutter to it too. And if I force Vsync to get rid of tearing, it seems to get worse still. This was on a few different systems, from a Radeon 3850 to my notebook's Radeon 9600. Even though it was running like 100fps on the 3850, it just didn't feel quite smooth.

The cars drive like land yachts (feel like you're floatin around in a SUV), there is no dash view, the tracks are too huge (and you frequently are on a 4 lap race so they take forever), and there's no damage modeling. So, really, it's a step back from NFS4 in just about every way methinks. The game just has a half-finished feel to it. The lack of dash view probably saved them big moola and time/effort, which is representative of how much EA cared about the game IMO.

But, hey, it could just be me. ;)

the tracks are too huge

Nooo no point giving me 200mph+ supercars then tracks where i cant get up to top speed...
actually the first game i played when i upgraded from a voodoo1 to a voodoo2 was nfs3 as dasboard view was not available on the v1

sorry i don't like driving games, i do enough real driving, not enough real killing, so i prefer games with killing. and i can't get the 'feel' of tracks in games, i can always win the pole, but put me in traffic, and im a menace (in games).

We need a new Carmageddon, you mean? :)

You usually can't get up to top speed anyway because these 20 mile tracks are constantly weaving around too.

I don't remember lacking the dash in NFS3 with a Voodoo1. I played the game mostly on one. Maybe it was something that you had to disable if you wanted a higher resolution or higher detail setting?

"2.2 Which 3D accelerators are supported?

Any Direct3D or 3DFX video card is supported by NFS3. However, for maximum
compatibility, video cards with the Voodoo, Voodoo Rush, Voodoo 2, Riva 128,
Intel i740, or ATI Rage Pro chipsets are recommended. I personally play with a
Cirrus Logic Laguna 4Mb card, and it runs fairly smoothly in 640x480.
AGP or at least 8Mb on-card memory (depends on chipset) are required for
the realistic dashboards to be seen in 3D accelerated mode. There has been a lot
of discussion on the Internet relating to this, as many see it silly that 8Mb is
needed just to see a dashboard. The dashboard can be seen in software render
mode. I can see the dashboard with only 4Mb of card RAM, but this is because it
is an AGP card.

Well hmmm. I do faintly remember that dashboard issue a tiny bit, I think.... At the time I was experimenting with a 8MB Matrox G200 + Voodoo1 in my sys though so it wouldn't have been a show stopper.

yeah, except if you ran game in Glide mode (voodoo selected) you need 12 MB Voodoo 2 to get dash, thanks to Voodoo's way of not having unified memory bus. (game needed 6MB of texture memory, which was not available in other Voodoo cards than 12MB version and of course that last rare one, with 16MB of ram.

Of course you could trick the game to run in D3D mode with Voodoo 2 8MB which gave you dash, performance then slowed down. With Voodoo 1 you were always without the dash.

Yet, G200 was perfectly fine card to run NFS3 and it certainly was faster than Voodoo 1, if paired with CPU with enough power. (G200 and G400 needed powerful CPU. that was their main problem.) And so if you had dashes in cars, you most likely ran the game with G200.

(it's less than a month I played NFS3, though heavily modified with add ons, but still.)

Porsche Unleashed - by a country mile. The driving was good in that game. Felt very immersive.

It also didnt suffer from EA PretendFriends(tm) that they seem to want to throw in there nowadays. Anoying douchebags trying to sound cool and giving you 'max respect' and all that drivel.

There's no thread for the new Need for Speed game which may indicate nobody cares but developer Ghost have just announced the PC version release has been delayed while they make it worthy of release:

A MESSAGE FROM THE TEAM

At Ghost, we’re united by one common passion... to deliver the best Need for Speed™experience possible. And at every step of the development process we're guided by our community. Whether that’s reading your comments on Facebook or Twitter, watching your videos on YouTube, or joining in with the discussion on Reddit, the conversation we've been having as fans of Need for Speed is enormously important and we’re working to reflect it in the game we're building.

Part of the conversation includes hearing from our PC community that an unlocked frame rate in Need for Speed is a massive priority for you, and we fully agree. To deliver this, we’ve made the decision to move the PC release date to Spring 2016. Our PlayStation 4 and Xbox One release dates will remain the same, starting November 3, 2015 in North America and November 5 worldwide.

This decision on PC gives us the necessary development time to increase the visuals that we can deliver on PC. We will also include content updates that will have been released on console up to that time, making them available to all PC players from day one.

Need for Speed is also committed to being a live service so we can deliver an ongoing experience that is constantly changing and evolving. We will include free content updates and challenges as ever-present ways for you to earn rewards and continually explore the game.

Since this is a connected game, server stability is at the forefront of discussion, and rightfully so. We will be undertaking a closed beta on PS4 and Xbox One in the coming weeks to help us test our server infrastructure to help prepare for launch. We’re taking great steps to ensure that your experience is not compromised, including having dedicated servers to make host migration a thing of the past.

Once again, we thank you for your continued passion and dedication to Need for Speed, and we look forward to seeing you on the streets of Ventura Bay.

Disappointing for some but better than the situation with Batman Arkham Knight. I'm betting they'll still cop some flak for this.

With the always-online shoehorning and henceforth the predictably poor reception from the PC gaming community, what I understand from that press statement is:

"We know the PC version is going to tank hard because of our always-online crap, so we'll postpone it for so many months that the bad publicity won't even affect the sales of the console versions."

Meh...

I dont have a twitter account and have no idea how to tweet or do that facebook nonsense
So I wonder if someone could ask them if the pc version will support steering wheels

How the hell do you get invited to parties without Facebook!?!

I will be honest ..

The first ONE, on PS1 ... was a damn surprise.. nobody was waiting it, between VRally and Ridge racer ... but damn, open road, traffic, police barrage, coast road, mountain road,... an heritage of the first Test Drive and Outlaw from AtariST... and then the sound whoo was used ..

The original on the 3DO was one of my most played games. I loved the routes rather than tracks and the weight the cars had. It was sim-like without the need for analogue controls. I thought NFS2 was rubbish on the PS1, and didn't touch the franchise until the (I think) Hot Pursuit reboot, which was alright. I then got Most Wanted (? Burnout Paradise 2), which I thought was good but not as much fun as Burnout Paradise and had performance issues! Nothing since has caught my attention.
