Far Cry 3 announced

Yeah, that's how I interpreted the red cloud - smoke signal rather than a blood splatter.

This is actually shaping up to be a pretty neat looking title. I admit, I was hesitant during the announcement for fear that it would be too similar to the original, the island setting, but from what I've read and seen so far, the story looks pretty solid. The characters are interesting, too. Vas seems hate-able enough to be a solid villain.

Far Cry 2 looked great in the run up, but the implementation was terrible. I'm not getting my hopes up until FC3 arrives and we know it's not been badly screwed up.

I'm expecting it to shape up to another resident evil media clusterfuck of racism accusations, where you play a white guy running around gunning down tons of brown people. That's what it looks like from the images I've seen so far anyway, so I'm just waiting for some talking heads to notice these same images and raise a stink about them...

Same here. Most of the footage I've seen has been focused on multiplayer (not that I've bothered to look up much footage). I'm not getting my hopes up that the single player is going to be any good.

I hope it is, but those hopes are pretty darn low.

SB

What? there's been only one footage of MP shown yet. All others have been of the campaign !

Ah, if that's the case than my hopes of the game being good have dropped even further. The few vid's I've seen have all looked like they came straight out of multiplayer.

Don't know about you, but some of the footages have been fantastic ! Like the one showing that crazy dopctor and what his drugs can do to your perception ! The player sees all purple and glowy things while who knows what it really looks like. And then there was one where you take over a ship adrift on the shore, I think. That one was so reminiscent of Far Cry 1 ! Sorry, I don't have l;inks, but to me those were indicative if a highly enjoyable campaign :) !

Must be a typo with the high performance Intel/AMD CPU, the i7 2600k for intel and FX-4150?:???:

I always feel like minimum reqs are written by people with little to no knowledge of PC hardware. This is a prime example.

I get that most developers, especially console devs, aren't going to be up to speed on hardware developments but surely there is at least 1 person in the studio who could look at this and say hey wait a minute..
I mean the GPU requirement list - probably the most important piece if information they could provide - is entirely meaningless. SM4.0 card that is DX9 compliant? I must have missed those non-DX9 compliant SM4.0 GPUs. And beyond that it tells you nothing except that your card should have been made in the last 3 years.

Basically I could write a much better reqs list without ever having seen the game.

is it a 64bit game? with a 32bit executable also.

There's no mention of an OS, I take that as I can run it on a non Windows OS, right :)
This funny specs bit has two sides. Either it's official trolling or just that you would be hard pressed to feel a difference between the two CPU.

Why would it be a typo?

I was mainly thinking that in almost all benchmarks, the i7 2600k outperforms even the FX 8000 CPUs.

As Homerdog mentions though, it's listed that a DX9 card supporting SM 4.0 is required, so these specs aren't perhaps much to go by.

I had no idea this game was so in-depth. I was kind of expecting mindlessly racing around, tagging bad guys while occasionally recruiting a buddy.

Crafting? Survival/hunting? Territories? Economies? Alright, this definitely looks worth buying, now. I was hesitant at first, because the setting seems too much like the first. Now it looks like all the elements from the first game are back, with some seriously interesting new additions. Most importantly no mutants.

Is it the same team that made Far Cry 2? That was the worst game that I paid full price for that I can remember in my life. Just the most awful thing you can think of, like shitting and puking at the same time.

We have a special connection you and I. I am allergic to Far Cry 2. They touted all sorts of exciting new things with that game too and we know how that ended up.

Learning abilities and moves? (from the article)
Does that mean you learn to prone or kick with XP points, or to roll on the side?
That feels unrealistic, I would want to play a sequel of Far Cry not an RPG.

For some reason I think of Zelda II : Adventure of Link and feel an urge to play it. This was an action game with XP, learned abilities and moves, and a bit of town action - introducing the concept of prostitutes regenerating your health.

I'm curious to see what the meaning of this map is. I'm guessing these islands represent miniature "worlds" you can join, each geared towards different aspects of the game, which as a concept seems pretty neat.

Everything on it looks relatively straightforward, aside from that "community" island. I have no idea what that's supposed to be.

Anyway, a new trailer was released yesterday. The cast of characters in the game look pretty interesting. I'm definitely excited for this one.
