Yes you could take that view but equally plausible is that in this case I think it's more to do with the unmitigated PR disaster (price alone) that Sony suffered at E3 this year. People are intrigued by shocking news.
As a corollary to this I don’t' think many Japanese consumers will be best pleased with Sony not protecting their consumer sovereignty through the use of a open pricing scheme for the premium model. I don't understand that tactic at all, that is unbelievably anti-consumer. Maybe someone can enlighten me further on this issue (if it isn’t too far off-topic), is it common to see this sort of pricing strategy employed in Japan?
