From NGC Magazine Issue 109:

"Capcom are working on a remake of Resident Evil for the DS, only this time using the same camera perspective and controls as the exceptionally brilliant Resident Evil 4 on Gamecube. That's right, a fully 3D version of the original survival horror, all in the palm of your hand.

Capcom explained that, the touch-screen would, in one instance, be used to attack, with the slashes of the stylus dictating the swipes of Chris Redfield or Jill Valentine's knife."

"Anyone who's played Resident Evil 4 (and that should be all of you by now) will testify to the difference a simple perspective change can make to the overall gameplay experience, and the chance to play through the original adventure with the added versatility of dual-screens and touch-screen control will certainly breath new life into an old game.

Hopefully Capcom will use the touch screen for full analogue aiming (giving extra depth to
the combat) as well as adding extra content, like puzzles, locations and situations to help keep things feeling nice and new."

If this game works well with a stylus, then I'm definitely sold on a DS. The biggest reason I bought a GC was for the Resident Evil series.

Whoa! I'm one of those people who have not played RE4, yet. :D .oO(too busy with other games); but the concept of using the touch-screen will definitely be a good experience in term of the gameplay.

A very surprising announcement from Capcom indeed. :devilish:

I remember there was a 2d Resident Evil port in development for Gameboy Color that got canned, too bad, it looked pretty good.

There was also a 3d engine developed for gba that had a resident evil type demonstration game on it.

I wonder why this is coming out for DS? PSP seems more suited, unless they really have a brilliant use for that touch screen....knife slashing alone doesn't sound great....hmm, I guess aiming makes it worthwhile. Still, how many times is Capcom going to resell the original Resident Evil? RE, RE:DC, RE:Remake, there was almost an RE for GBC, and now RE for DS. How about a remake of 2 for once, even though 2 was very wildly ported along with 3. Maybe a Code Veronica port would have been worthwhile, it was full 3d to begin with, and perhaps its graphics might be somewhat replicable on the DS. RE's prerendered backgrounds in real time...well the original RE had crappy backgrounds that can probably be surpassed. Still, why does Capcom want to remake all the backgrounds for this game again?

Well, I guess this, along with Viewtiful Joe DS, means that Capcom still has a very close relationship with Nintendo, despite lackluster sales on the Cube, Nintendo's practical withdrawal from the console market, and the fact that Sony now has a system that's easy to develop for(PSP) which was the main reason cited for going to Nintendo in the first place.
