Euro 2004 Portugal

Dissapointing performance by the Germans. The second half was decent and overall they controlled the game, but they're too static and the offensive is almost painfully harmless. Two good periods in 3 matches just isn't good enough, needing even more chances to score a goal than Italy isn't either! ;)

On the other hand even the Czech "B-Team" turned a game after they were behind, amazing! Who's gonna beat them?!

As for Van Nistelrooy and/or Kluivert, I say Makaay all the way!!!!! ;)

Missed some of the first half but the way I saw it was that England were in front and for the next 80 minutes played lazy and were seriously outplayed by Portugal.

They woke up when Portugal got their 2nd goal and played how they should have done. Beckham was a total waste on the pitch.. slow, lethargic, didnt contribute much...

Portugal were excellent throughout the game until England woke up.

Still.. the disallowed goal was a blatantly bad decision... but I couldnt help but feel England didnt want the game to go their way as bad as Portugal and in the end they paid for it.

Unlucky penalty kick by Beckham, and I really felt for Vassel.. poor guy was my man of the match.

That Ronaldo kid has too much energy too.. damn him and his cheeky, ugly laugh.. he even laughs when he fouls.. me hates him.

I'm glad that Portugal won (sorry guys) because they were clearly the better team. England played shockingly poor after Rooney left. Portugal was dominating the game and it was only a matter of time. I saw it coming from a mile away.

The dissallowed goal was right. You're not allowed to even touch the keeper in his small box when he's trying to reach for the ball, and Terry(?) clearly pushed him down.

I'm wondering if Beckham will ever shoot a Penalty again.

Portugal were shitting themselves all match! Their shots at goal were woeful. Tournament favourites? I don't think so. Not without "external influences".

Our 50-50 balls went Portugals way the whole match through (which frankly was our own fault). They took their possession and played good possessional football with it.

Had they been a decent team they should have massacred us. They aren't, they didn't. Which makes it worse!

We were clearly going to concede a goal all match. And so we did.

The 3-2 goal being disallowed was just plain destiny. Home-town ref. That's football.

England were poor. Portgual were poor. The ref earned his money.

Still, let it be said that England never lie down, when we go out it's rarely boring.

Good luck to France. You're gonna need it.

VICTORY

The best team on the pitch won !

As for the sorry losers, learn the rules before you speak. Keeper charged in the small area is a foul anywhere in the world. They don't change to suit your wishes.

You were outclassed and outplayed and there's only one reason for your team to return early : PORTUGAL.

End of story.

Watch the replay. The two England players jump straight up - it's the keeper that charges into them, not the other way around. The linesman, who was much closer and had much better line of sight than the referee and gave it as a legal goal. England were a victim of a bad decision - happens all the time in football, but it's a pity it came down to that, and not the play on the field.

Sorry BZB, but he is right. Premier League is a bit tougher and refs there might have given the goal, but according to UEFA rules it was a 100% correct decision.

I don't think they were the victim of poor decisions, but rather the victims of poor performance ;)

You should watch the replay again. They've played it again on portuguese TV and there's one english that commits a foul on the keeper.

Like i said, according to the rules it's a foul in any part of the world and the rules apply to everyone at any time.

And you should be thanking our player Costinha for the beautifull assist to M.Owen ! :D

England are themselves to blame for defeat, I don't know why suddenly they turned defensive as soon as Rooney left. They should have sticked to their strength which is attack. With players like Beckham/Owen you don't need to defend. They allowed Portugese to dictate terms. I wonder if it was intentional?? England play like dream when they make fast attacking moves but alas......

England out in a marathon of a match.

When is Sven Göran going to forbid Beckham to take penalties ?

Cheers

Saying that .. when is Figo gonna stop taking the free/penalty kicks??

Well, we'll have to see the repercussions of his substitution. He was clearly unhappy coming off the pitch.

As for the free kicks, he's usually very good but last night he was just bad.

Out of the game Holland v Sweden will come our next opponent!

In other words, up next is The Netherlands vs Portugal.

OMG France played so poor, i'm thinking it was intentional. I hear the coach is not very popular among the players.

Whatever happens between a coach and the players, there is NO way the players would actually play to lose!!! That's a ridiculous statement. Their mood or fitness might have been down, for reason connected to it, but saying that they intentionally lost is laughable. Those players want to win more than they want to live.

The curse is broken :)

The Netherlands beats Sweden in a penalty shootout, after failing tournaments 4 times in a row in that same situation. Keeper van der Sar saves the day hooray!!
