Epic Says This Is What Next-Gen Should Look Like

I can think of very few things I wouldn't prefer to pointless physics shenanigans to be honest. (it was a pure annoyance in GTAIV and RDR actually. Steering a character through a door shouldn't be a tricky ordeal)

That has nothing to do with Physics in games and everything to with Rockstar not rigging up their animation system well with the character control.

And besides... with RDR it was a non issue.

Physics affected driving in GTAIV was what made that game for me. I LOVED speeding around the city in a fast car in that game.

Fun with physics in games is awesome ;-)

Edit:
Also...

Forgive my simple mind but I just cannot get my head around this...

Yes that is some of the oddest wording I've seen :), but I think he is saying that there are many things he would prefer over physics shenanigans.

^exactly right. I like my games to be precise, snappy and predictable on the execution end of things. I don't mind rag-dolls or big ass explosions obviously, because that's just eye candy and at that point I'm just a spectator anyway (and of course they are needed for racing games or Pinball sims and other games like that) I hate them when they are at a game's core, especially when the type of game works marvelously well without them, like a Jump and Run. Physics completely ruined Little Big Planet for.

I guess it's about striking the balance between believable animations and responsive controls. No point in making characters act "weighty" just for the sake of it. I didn't mind it in GTA 4 or RDR though. Maybe a bit in GTA4 but i think it had more to do with framerate/input lag rather than just physics.

Is Boekeh DOF is part of UE3 now? Think it was in one of the tech demos earlier this year.

Is Arkham City using Lightmass too?

It was the tech demo that is the subject of this thread, but I'm not aware of them supporting bokeh in DX9.

I always thought that Uncharted movie should be high budget CG and they can show Uncharted 4 after the movie debut at a press or something and show everyone how close it looks.

Makes me wonder if Sony is still sticking with Nvidia since AMD didn't mention PS3. Maybe the rumor of AMD making GPUs for the three isn't so true after all.

still current console are far away from the first render target show in 2005, who care about some avatar speculation?

Completely useless, these guys apparently don't have a clue about just how much stuff goes on in any Avatar scene, especially the ones with the CG jungle and characters. At this point in time even a 16-core PC couldn't handle everything at once, Weta has rendered scenes in many separate layers and with a LOT of pre-calculated stuff like baking shadows, point clouds, spherical harmonics and so on. Very few people truly know all the work that has to be done to calculate a single pixel and I'm quite sure none of them are working at the hw vendors...

As I said before, "Avatar" = the new "Toy Story" when it comes to nonsense CG PR. I suppose they just latch onto the best CG movie graphics at the time and say "we'll do this in realtime."

It might be bunk but it actually gets me pretty excited.

Remember, I'm the guy saying the leap to next gen graphics-contrary to slowing down or diminishing returns- is going to be by far the biggest we've ever seen :D

It also sort of confirms the next Xbox wont be going some sort of weak spec route...

Also this:
Again I don't think he meant a 1:1 pixel representation but the overall approximation would be much closer than you think.

I was thinking, the epic uses three GTX580,how power and efficiency that this type of hardware can deliver up to 1.5 or 2 * GTX580 (3 * certainly does not seem possible for the limitations SLI)?

For they said that lowering the resolution would be possible to process even a single GTX580.

Still, there are many heavily CG enhanced movies, but they had to choose Avatar that is just on the another level.
They should aim at Samaritan demo [which i think its even possible on console with 560Ti like gpu] or Cinema 2.0 Ruby demo.
