Elden Ring [2022-21-01] [PS, XB, PC]

Game looks amazing. Can't wait and comparing it to Demon Souls isn't a fair comparison.

Hands on impressions and videos are out. Have only glanced at a few of them but they seem very positive about the game.

Only watched a little bit of footage of people playing this since I don't want to spoil it too much for myself, but the game actually looks pretty dang good for a From Software game.

Nice change to the "estus flask" to allow for open world gameplay. In dungeons it operates just like a Souls game. In the open world, you refill a little bit of it with every kill.

[edit] Going by accounts that the test area has about 9-12 hours of gameplay and that the area you can play is is only about 1/12 of the landmass in the in game map, speculation is that this is a 100+ hour game. Even more if you consider that entire storylines are cut off depending on your choices in the game and you want to experience all the storylines.

Another comment I'm hearing is that this is Dark Souls inspired by the exploration and openess of Zelda: BOTW.

VRR is freesync/gysnc yes
I believe you got that the other way around. AMD and Nvidia GPUs can take advantage of VRR via their Freesync or Gsync technologies.

For the consoles, they'll use Freesync since they're AMD display controllers.

VRR is freesync/gysnc yes - do TV's support that ? or is it just for people with consoles connected to monitors?

The techinical term for it when it comes to TVs is VESA Adaptive Sync. For many TV's this will usually be labled as FreeSync (like on my LG CX) due to AMD being the first to embrace and help promote this on TVs.

VRR (variable refresh rate) is just a generic term for any form of adaptive sync (screen blank/refresh adaptively synced to GPU output). Basically adaptive sync means that the TV syncs to the GPU output rather than traditional Vsync that has the GPU sync it's output to the display. So it doesn't matter whether it's called FreeSync, Gsync, or whatever sync.

And yes, some TVs have supported this for quite a while now. Samsung and LG in partnership with AMD have supported this in their televisions for quite a few years now. Although interestingly while it worked with the Xbox consoles, it was hit or miss with their graphics cards.

Yes I eventually found my post
Unless someone deleted my post and then posted it in a different thread to wind me up
/looks at Brit suspiciously....

Oddly enough you're having these issues after Shifty returned...

Steam just posted the Global PC release times for Elden Ring.

elden ring.jpg

So, it releases at a same time globally (not adjusted for time zone) so there's no benefit to trying to use a release from a different region.

Pre-load will be available 48 hours before release time. I can't wait.

There's another version of that map released by Bandai Namco which shows that the PC version releases 6 hours before consoles.

Man I can't wait!
