I think it's CG. It's gotta be, too good to be true, and only 1 guy on the court, looks like a image from the opening movie.

The shot looks like a blown up low-res image. Not sure, could be CGI, but the gameplay videos looked close enough. I'm sure that in some sort of "realtime video" with only one player on court, we'd get that kind of detail. We're already close enough, with a launch game, and lots of characters on screen. Safe to assume this could be done easily. This could even be a videos made out of realtime assets.

Heh fight sweat with even more sweat!

Anyway I dunno, something in the pic screams CGI to me. Not sure what though. Perhaps it's the shirt being so smooth.

We'll know everything soon enough...

Electronic Arts announced today it will showcase five Xbox 360 launch titles at Microsoft's X05 event in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, on October 4th and 5th. Xbox 360 games from well-known EA franchises under the EA SPORTS and EA brands that will be available to play include: Need for Speed Most Wanted, FIFA 06: Road to FIFA World Cup, NBA LIVE 06, Tiger Woods PGA TOUR 06 and Madden NFL 06.

The lighting, eyes, and general quality are a lot better than the E3 footage. With 6 months and Beta hardware, who knows?

Specifically note: The Jersey ;) I don't remember clothe physics in the E3 demo. Of course EA saw the NBA2K6 demo, so they could have gone to work on it.

Anyhow, the sweat looks a LOT better than their E3 sweat which looked like water dripping down a dusty car!

Now the doubt: Last time we saw something this good it was an "artists impression... but don't worry, the real thing looks even better! That is why we cannot show it!"

Looks good, better than the 2K6 shots, but then again it's just one person and limited background. No way to tell if this is ingame, replay, concept or prerendered front-end graphics. The polygon detail is good, ca¨'t really see an edge out of place there. So is the texturing.
I can't tell if it looks real though, as I've never seen a big muscular sweaty black man so close in real life. Give me a similar pic of a white player and I'll tell my opinion then.

Well I'm black, sweat sometimes, and sorta muscular so I guess I can give my opinion.:p The Dwayne Wade pic is spot on.

Lots of AA and depth of field effects in that shot..

Yes if I am not mistalen there are a lot more than 4 AA samples and as the xb360 does not support more than 4xAA this is not running realtime on the xb360.

You can see that you, 2x uses two colors/steps to make the transistion and 4x uses four steps. The screenshot in question uses 20+ steps.
that might work good for high contrast examples, but not really here. first of all there looks to be a bit of overbrighting and bloom on some edges (causing them to be softer), and most others are out of focus because of DOF anyway. beyond that, who says the image hasn't been resized (and the extra "steps" you speak of are a product of the resizing)? last time i checked 671p wasn't a standard output format.

this level of detail should be possible with one model and a simple background without much trouble. if you look at the shots with more than one player on the court, they look much clooser to what we're seeing from visual concepts.

I'd really like to point out that if anything, these games understate the amount of sweat these guys produce when they play.

You realize without the sweat boys toweling it up, there would quite literally be fucking puddles of sweat on the ground?

Something about that quote tickles me... ROFL I'm sure you watch football in addition to playing it on a game console... in addition to NBA basketball.... Funny you have no recollection of thousands of big, muscular, sweaty black men for all these years, yet you enjoy watching those sports!

Had you made this statement in conjunction with a hockey game.... I would have understood... ah well... Hilarious!
