E3 (X360) Speculation

Xbox.com has a pre-E3 section which is updated with mails from gamers.

http://www.xbox.com/en-US/community/news/events/e32006/articles/20060505-wishlist.htm

Those mails are obviously hand picked by MS, which makes me wonder about the chance we'll hear related announcements. I mean, what good would it do for MS to create hype and disappoint gamers afterwards...

One of the most interesting things in there: the Dreamcast rumor.

"Last, but not least, the announcement that a slew of new Arcade games are heading our ways. The rumors of the Dreamcast library coming to a console near you would be heaven!"

Oh boy...

Hm, doesn't really interest me other than it would be a really bold move of MS to get DC emulation onto the X360. No DC game carries any particular meaning to me, it's just a weak last-gen (barely) console in my eyes.

Putting up DC games on live arcade would break the download limit by a rather huge margin tho, heh... It would also create problems for people since the 20GB HDD won't store particulary many such games, not with the enormous space reserved for other use by the console's OS. Especially not if Sin Episodes and such start to be distributed through Live too.

Why would it cause problems on download and Harddisk space? The 360 demos as of now can be around 650MB. DC games will be in that ball park and there are plenty of titles on the DC which were of very high quality.

True, but most demos are deleted quickly, unlike full games.

If DC games were to ever come to the 360 as digi-distro, Live would have to immediately implement both background downloading AND a download queue for me to bother with it.

I fully expect at least your first wish to be granted very soon.

And on the subject of DC games. A *lot* of those are highly recommended (no IMHO disclaimer necessary in this case).

DC emulation would imply an XBLA relationship with Sega and would presumably also mean a general back catalog of games on XBLA, not just DC games. Funny but i feel that DC games without the older classics isnt as cool as DC games WITH the older classics. In short, i feel like they would need both for the annoucnement to have impact.

True, but if you purchase the rights to the game, you should be able to download it again after deleting it.

This would be ok, for people who don't replay their games frequently, or only play one game at a time. But it would be a pain for people who are collectors or those who jump between games frequently.

However, it wouldn't surprise me if MS announced a large (100+ GB) HD at E3. If that happens, then no problems with storing a ton of games.

Um, you are aware of how painful it is to download 500+ megs on a 128kbit connection, yes? Many people don't have a particulary fast broadband setup.

Some even have metered internet access, meaning every byte (or those above a certain fixed limit) cost them extra money on top of the regular access fee.

Assume I want to play a game NOW. Live Arcade games are typically of that variety, you want to start something on an impulse. Except, you deleted that game last week to make room for something else. Are you now going to delete THAT game to make room for the one you deleted last time:?: Very counterproductive... There's a whole bunch of reasons why repeated downloads of the same stuff is either simply very annoying, or an outright bad idea.

The people who buy xbox 360s aren't the equivalent of little old ladies who only drive their cars to church on sundays you know...

Its not too painful if you are patient.

Then they have more issues than just downloading something. Some places, if you download a 2 gig game you won't have any extra bits to spare to play it online. Oh noes. The only solution to downloadable games in places that have limits is to allow users to purchase a hard "copy" for a small price (mainly paying for physical costs) and register/pay for it online. Also give them the ability to download the game again if the want. Is their disc bad, go back to the store and purchase another copy.

Now you HAVE to remove that game from the disc drive so you can play the OTHER game. Very couterproductive, they have to get back up out of their chair and walk over to the game box and do some complex work. Everything will be annoying to somebody. If you are running out of space Microsoft isn't preventing you from purchasing another hard drive are they? If you are running out of space delete something you don't want or get more storage. Your complaint is very narrow minded.

I'm imagining the high capacity HDD being announced for this reason as well.

hey, and how about it coming pre-loaded with XBLA content?

I assume your better solution would be to simply not have the games on the 360, correct? You must think that would be a better idea since you are so hell bent on claiming that having the option is bad.

You must think they are since you think that downloading some demos would be such a huge problem for them.
