That's the thing though.. I don't know what will be on it in two/three/four/five years time. I do know that working on what's happened in the past, the best games will be on the biggest seller. So as an early adopter I can either (a) buy everything, (b) guess which will be the biggest seller, or (c) wait until later in the lifecycle and make my choice.
My point which I think didn't come across so well was that I don't want to buy a system knowing the promotional material used as "expected performance" was never going to be reached in order to artificially boost sales. But I feel that will leave me on a system will lower-quality games! I'm really miffed at the moment with a "damned if you do, damned if you don't" feeling.
I think I take these things too personally As a Dreamcast and XBox owner, I can say both systems proved their value (before the XBox died, anyway >:[ ) and any current-gen system would have made their respective owners happy. I know it's all about the games, but I think the more "informed" I become, the less happy with the choice I'll make will be.
