Doom3: Will it have a separate SM3 codepath ?

Have I ever said this game runs well on the 6800U and X800 at 1024x768 with small amounts of AA and AF applied?

What's " well " for you Reverend ? We prolly dont have all the same " well " feeling.

Well, I would feel well if I'm told by someone important who said he feels well that the game runs well at that setting.

Would someone like to explain how Carmack can go from stating ATI cards run the ARB2 pathway at twice the speed of nVidia cards to nVidia cards suddenly running the ARB2 pathway faster than ATI cards?
Carmack just learned how to use UltraShadow properly?

The NV30/31/34 do not have "UltraShadow" technology.

I think we all know how performance was boosted on on the NV3x. 8)
Using FX12? Isn't that what the nv3x path is mainly about? Now the nv3x path is removed, so is the usage of FX12 :?:

What is 'small amounts'? 2xAA and 4xAF?
Your guess is as good as mine. Not qualities that developers really worry about, I'm afraid.

Another question: Is the graphics renderer in DOOM3 also capped to 60Hz? Or it is the main engine can only calculate 60 different states in one second, but the renderer can output as many frames as it can, even if some of them are identical?

So I guess 1280x960 with 2xAA and 8x AF on a X800XT is out of the question? Maybe at medium details? I'll take some compresion artifacts at 1280x960 over 1024x768 any day.

Compression artifacts? What does resolution have to do with compression artifacts?
I was refering to medium settings in Doom3.. Does not this mean that texture compresion will be used while its not being used at high settings?

Doom3 renderer is not capped at 60fps, Doom3 runs at an internal tic simulation of 60Hz. Big difference.

Graphic cards will still render Doom3 as fast as it can keep up. :)

Ok, thanks for clearing it up.
Now what happens when the framerate is higher than the tic simulation rate? Will the engine interpolate between states, or just give the renderer a "point-sampled" state?

Aaaah

I'm sure it does. 1024x768.... wow. ;)

Damn ... this is gonna run so badly on my machine. I have an alright processor (A64 2800), but my Radeon 9500 Pro is just not gonna cut it. And I bought that card when it came out, thinking Doom3 would be out shortly thereafter. Looks like it's 800x600 with no AA/AF and medium details for me.

Small amounts of AA and AF:

AA: 6x-8x
AF: 16xAF + Quality/Full Trilinear on nV cards

All at 320x240.
