Diablo III - It's official

Then, it's like comparing apples to oranges...

I'd like to bring this back up. Why was Guild Wars mentioned when it's an MMORPG(Albeit a non-traditional one)? Were the MMO aspects forgotten?

Diablo 3 has a single player mode, while GW does not. That sort of makes the comparison a false one. I'm thinking it was a simple mistake on y'all's part.

There's also the point to be made that Guild Wars doesn't work very well solo. You can do okay for the first few areas, but the later ones quickly become next to impossible solo (in part because the henchmen just become too weak).

This was why I quit Guild Wars. Although - for me it wasn't that the henchmen were too weak, just that I couldn't ensure that they didn't pull aggro from random positioning/movement, and I got stuck on an area that required better precision.

A number of players in the pick-up area. That didn't wan't to play the game but preferred to sit around and poke around in their own navels in front of the keyboard. Bleh. One of the games that helped sour me permanently on online multi-player with strangers. I don't buy any game these days that require a group to experience the content. I won't waste my life like that any more.

The more I see of Diablo 3, the more I feel that it's emphasis has been put where I'm just not interested. A pity, since I really appreciate the first and second installment (although I actually prefer the fine balance of the first over the freedom of the second).

Am I alone in thinking Titan Quest (+ Immortal Throne expansion) is a better game than Diablo II? I just feel like it took all the good elements of Diablo and improved on them.

Hopefully D3 can up the ante even more, but I'm very not keen on this always online and auction house business. Seems like they're trying to make a money factory rather than a game.

Hm, I thought Titan Quest was absolutely terrible. The game difficulty was incredibly unbalanced with most mobs being merely trash to wade through and others being utterly lethal (those being basically anything that shot arrows/spat poison/flung spells at me), and meant instant death if taken on more than 1 or 2 at a time. It was also super easy to get totally owned by the very first mobs you encounter when starting the game. First time I loaded up TQ a boar gored me to death in about 5 seconds flat, I didn't even know what the Eff happened, I was just dead. I didn't play the game after that for about 3 years or so.

Also, I found the skill trees to also be wacked out and boring, and the game dropped too much crap making you play inventory tetris and run gauntlets back and forth between the wilderness and the shopkeeper back in town far too much of the time.

Yeah it's great I'm playing through it with my brother right now.

Grall you can drop teleporters to instantly bring you back and forth from towns to sell your loot. Also I think the difficulty curve is perfect, especially for multiplayer.

The classes are also nicely varied and balanced. You should give it another shot.

titan quest is a horrible piece of shit, but perhaps a thread devoted to that game would be a better place to discuss why.

Sorry for the OT but does anyone know of a program that can remap mouse buttons to keyboard keys?

I don't know of a general program, but Logitech offers software to do that for its mice (probably some other mouse manufacturers as well).

I hope Diablo 3 supports the extra buttons on my Intellimouse 3.0.
Heh. I'm *loving* my Logitech G500. Two cool things I love about it:
1. It has a mechanical toggle switch to turn on/off the scroll wheel clicking, so you can either let the scroll wheel roll freely for super-fast scrolling, or have it click for precise control.
2. It has 10 programmable buttons and six sensitivity settings which can be stored on the mouse and used anywhere (this is nice for me because I dual-boot between Windows and Linux, and I can configure my mouse in Windows, and have the configuration work the same way under Linux).

...and the core of Diablo is a circle-trading game...

lol nice, Diablo is all about farming items and trading them. Of course it is, especially now that they'll be making $$$ on every transaction in the AH. There is actually a game to enjoy playing as well right?

I can't recall a single damn time I traded on Diablo 2 online, and I've put like 1000 hours into it. Of course, I mostly played with my brother, but still...

Trying to trade stuff in D2 was like pulling teeth. It involved sitting endlessly in a number of battle.net chat channels, enduring mountains of spam, and endless streams of idiots that wanted to trade Nagelrings and expected to be paid in multiple Stones of Jordan and so on.

My biggest worry about D3 actually is wether I'm going to have to detach myself from the internet entirely (*ahem* other than to log in to battle.net of course...) in order to be able to play the game, because undoubtedly there'll be millions of people frothing at the mouth to post the Diablo-equivalent of "Dumbledore dies on page xxx!"-type spoilers.

If I don't, I'm going to find out that the true endboss isn't Diablo, it's actually Tyrael, and all kinds of other shit I'd rather discover myself...

I would be fine with Tyrael being the final boss if they get his original voice back, rather than the one used in the Lord of Destruction expansion. The original voice was fucking epic and commanding.

Beta should start next month, so assuming 2-3months it could be out in december. Blizzard hasn't said anything yet though.

Only that they are still aiming for a 2011 release.

I am going to be online either way, so the DURM doesn't detract from my desire to get this game.

Have my arms and legs crossed for an beta invite.
