DF's role in Xbox marketing *spawn

Lots of games of Pro-enhanced games (300 I think?) but we have to use a forum to figure out what feature is in what game. Shameful.

Just fyi, the current count of PS4 Pro enhanced titles is 64. And unfortunately as you said, there is no official place to see what enhancements are available for each. Clearly Pro upgrades haven't been a point of emphasis for Sony as MS has 120 confirmed X enhanced titles already. Silver lining is that hopefully us Pro owners will get to leach off some of that work and get more titles. :) Like DF said.

I have no idea where I saw the 300 figure. It did seem a bit high :D
It would be logical that any X enhanced games will also be Pro enhanced, so it's all the same really.

Wow this old chestnut again. Was DF's article marketing for Microsoft? No more so than their articles/speculation on PS4 Pro was for Sony, or their coverage after Sony's February 2013 PS4 reveal event, the only different being Microsoft gave DF exclusive advanced access and paid for it - which was fully disclosed:

This article aims to bring you the key Project Scorpio information, but we have learned much, much more about the hardware that we'll share with you as soon as possible. Microsoft invited Digital Foundry to visit the Xbox team at its Redmond HQ, paying for travel and accommodation.

Can you be paid to cover something and be retain your independence and journalistic integrity? Absolutely. Did the article come over as a bit gushing? In my view yes but XOX is powerful new console hardware, how can you be really interested in this stuff and not be excited by it, especially when you are among the first to see it up close outside of the company than made it!?!

I don't get it. I generally do think it was a bizarre way of revealing the specs, i.e. letting (and trusting) a third party to do it but whatever works. If Microsoft told DF was to write that would be different but I've seen no evidence of that.

I'm excited by the power of the X and I'm not even buying one. People take these things way too seriously.

Yes, MS has gone far above what Sony has done to promote/market XBX compared to PS4Pro. It is more important to them and sales (early on) will reflect the effort they put into XBX.

The struggle will be to sell a $500 box outside of XB1's core audience.
in addition, Sony didn't want to make original PS4 users feel second class citizens and wanted to keep the hype low. Their entire conference was pretty low key to keep the message straight and avoiding making a big fuss of the differences, because they knew the console is a PS4 on steroids but not an entirely new generation leap.

Xbox One X on the other hand is built to fix all the shortcomings of the original hardware and meant to be a big leap, albeit not generational.

I don't feel like a 2nd class citizen. If Sony was worried about their users feeling that way then they must be temperamental lot. ;) LOL

Except the CPU though.

Hopefully this thread will act as a magnet for the MSVU.

Maybe it was trollish, maybe it wasn't, I have no idea. There is an interesting discussion to be had about journalistic integrity when a single source get exclusive coverage and stops actual journalism (off the record investigation, corroborated sources, providing both the positive and negative, asking neutral experts). I like DF and would never consider them shills, but I can understand why there is doubt about specific articles.

You guys are so sensitive you'd get into a fight about what is cutest between a kitten and a puppy.
Obviously the kitten, because dogs are stupid and dirty.

Sony's strategy was not to rock the boat. Microsoft's is to build a new boat before the one they're on finishes sinking.

Well we all know the true answer to that. :p

Ain't nothing cuter than a puppy. Awwwwww. Cute puppy. >>burbling<< Who's da cute puppy. >>/burbling<<

Except the CPU though.
True enough, although the additional memory controllers and increased TLB and page descriptor caches seem to have yielded a fairly nice boost over the base clock bump. Will be exciting when we get to proper Ryzen class CPU's, although there is some little part of my brain that wonders if someone won't make the move to a K12 based option next gen.

Proof that DF loves One by shilling?

Yah, I get it. I just think they're intentionally withholding on PS4 Pro, because they don't want it to overshadow PS4, because that's the majority of their customer base. They don't want people with PS4 constantly being fed info about how much better PS4 Pro is. That's my thought on the matter anyway.

I actually hate this assumed line of thought from Sony. I've said before that Apple with its yearly releases doesnt stop promoting their latest products as best thing since slice bread. And despite this way of promotion their older gen products still contribute heavily to their bottom line. Later this year, Apple will tell you their new iPhone is a must have product but will generate billions from the iPhone 7 and 6 for the next couple of years as lower tier products.

People aren't going to stop buying PS4s because of Sony heavily promoting the Pro no different than nothing prevents Nvidia from selling a ton of low and midrange cards while they readily tout their thousand dollar flagship card as the king of the gpu space.

There a ton of examples of manufacturers using their niche expensive high end wares as halo devices. And there is nothing that says you can't do it in the console space.

If MS ends up turning things completely around this gen using the X as a halo product and lifting the S sales, Sony lack of desire to heavily promote the Pro will be partially responsible for allowing that to happen.
