CYBERPUNK 2077 [XO, XBSX|S, PC, PS4, PS5]

The simple bottom line is that CD Red had certain goals with this game. None of them were achieved. That represents a failure. It doesnt matter how unrealistic those goals may seem to us. CD Red had them and they werent achieved

That is all fine and dandy, but the bottom line is, what is the ROI. And could the investors/CDPR gotten better ROI on something else, with the same level of risk.

One could argue about it by looking at their shareprice
before Cyberpunk 443 zloty
currently 167 zloty, i.e. less than half

I think they realize now waiting 6 months would of been the best thing to do, hopefully it serves as a lesson to other companies, in dont release products prematurely (I'm just dreaming of course)

Share price is as much psychology as anything else, so if the stock market believed that hitting 70M+ sales was doable, they would inflate the stock price to reflect that. Now it looks like it wont happen, ie there has been a correction.

But if they waited that 6 months, the share price and investors probably would have gone bonkers anyway. Mainly because CDPR was not able to deliver on time. Also dropping multi-player, probably did not help, compared to GTA V, which is printing money due to MP, I guess.

As for the game it self, I hope that some DLC could make it more interesting. Or at least some mod tools to create missions etc.
I would love to see it as some sort of MMRPG.

Though the shareprice has actually been pretty stable for the last year, All that loss in value to the company was in the few months after the release of cyberpunk.
Its safe to say the market feels the game underperformed and damaged the company as a whole.

The pre-launch share price was pretty inflated, though. Especially for a company that's essentially only worked on one franchise, and only one of the 3 Witcher games was really of a quality that would get people excited, and only if they didn't play Witcher 3 at launch and knew how glitchy it was.

They definitely messed up, but not badly enough to tank the company. They'll recover from this. It's probably a tough decision on whether or not to support Cyberpunk 2077 with more content using their own engine or just to cut their losses and concentrate on Witcher 4. This'll hit 25 million over time IMO, but 49 million was probably a realistic target before the fiasco. I think it wasn't just the last gen versions that were the issue, but also the fact that the game just doesn't live up to its promise of true immersion into Night City. At the end of the day, even on capable hardware this is really only an 8/10 game. Not 9+/10 like the Witcher 3.

I wonder if they'll decide the dlc will be a paid dlc to recoup more money.

Or the calculus still says free dlc brings more money because there are still lots of people that hadn't bought the vanilla game?

They committed to some free DLC but I was under the impression it was stuff like the alternate skins for Johnny and some new weapons and cosmetics. The story based DLC was always going to be paid I think.

Whilst It may of been inflated
but I don't think anyone can argue Cyberpunk was a huge success
It definitely underperformed, remember it was the most hyped game of 2020

CD Projekt Red Revenue 2020 $562 million (Cyberpunk available for 21 days, no other releases)
CD Projekt Red Revenue 2021 $207 million (Cyberpunk available for 365 days, also released The Witcher:Monster slayer on mobile)

Sure most games are front loaded, but this is something exceptional and judging by the revenues any subsequent sales were heavily discounted

I think an aspect is also the appeal of cyberpunk. Taken as a genre, it is massively lagging behind fantasy. It's probably not a coincidence that there are simply not many as cyberpunk games, cyberpunk TV shows, cyberpunk films as there are fantasy equivalents.

I agree that Fantasy is a stronger genre than Cyberpunk, but in the end it's just a futuristic GTA and it should have done better than it did. Nevertheless, it's not the company sinking disaster that some would make it.

Btw does cdpr ever talked about cross platform save for cp2077 like what they did with witcher 3 switch?

I almost bought cp2077 on xbox sale. But I remembered that I have cp2077 on epic, so I can't take advantage of Xbox pc console cross save.

GTA and Cyberpunk are miles apart in terms of mechanics and gameplay. Cyberpunk is a proper RPG, you can eschew combat with stealth and subversion, become a katana-wielding cyber-ninja, a tech-using hacker, a sniper, whatever you want. GTA is GTA. I like both games, bit they are very, very different other than you have a person and a city and surrounding countryside to explore.

^ CD Red also never claimed its a GTA like. Only gamers extracted that. CD Red said in every interview where this came up they were inspired by Deus Ex 1, Vampire Bloodlines, System Shock. Which is clear when you look at the "augmentations" in the game, their attempt at player agency during missions (which falls far short of Deus Ex 1). It's basically the opposite of Rockstar's restricted and ultra linear gamedesign. In a rockstar game since GTA 4 you fail the mission if you take a step to the left when the game instructed you to make it to the right.

It's been my experience that many of the things that people were disappointed by regarding Cyberpunk have been with things that were never promised, or promised very early and then later retracted a year or more before launch when the game's scope was much more in view. Even now, every time there is a patch there is a very vocal community of people demanding new game plus. Some who insist that it was promised or implied, and others claiming they won't play it until it's added. Like, how do you know you will even want NG+ if you haven't even played it yet?

One criticism I would agree with is that I'm not sure I consider it an RPG. It's more of an open world immersive sim.

I'm not disputing that they play different. Just that near future as a genre isn't that different from GTA. It's not like the game is set in the stone age or in deep space.

In other words, I don't think that the Cyberpunk genre holds the game back all that much.

Ray tracing lighting normal vs ultra vs psycho, any comparison images?

I can't see any difference other than lower performance. Normal felt flatter but I'm not sure it really was or it was just placebo

The dualsense haptic mod combined with my Workaround method of HD vibrator feels really good!

I can't stop playing cp2077 every time I got a free time ROFL.

Simply driving around, slashing people. Awesome.

OK, I know I'm being a child whenever this happens. :p But I can't help giggling every time I see you mention that the Dual Sense controller is a vibrator. ;)
