Cyan's *Must-Have* Skyrim Mod Recommendation Super-Gush Thread - daily updates

Does individual pieces of armor gain in rating the more you use them. I've spent 95% of my playing time using this one particular piece of studded armor. I took it very early in the game and upgraded it to superior. I used it mostly because of it looks and figured i would find a better set of whatever later down the line. But now at level 25, I found no light armor rated higher. So I run around with eleven gauntlets, boots and helmet all upgraded to superior with this studded armor piece that rated at 76 with an overall armor rating at 178. All other identical armor pieces are rated 46, so there is a 30 point difference which I can't explain through the smithing upgrade because initially there was only a 5 point difference between non-superior studded and my armor piece.

The upgrades make a much bigger difference than the kind of armor does (especially if you are merely moving up from. let's say, Elven to Glass) Even a lowly hide armor grants some respectable defense if you keep on upgrading it. I still really like my Nightingale Armor despite having a bunch of legendary Dragon Armor sets. Very cheap upgrades as well.

Taken from gaf but this is why Skrim is the best game out there by a LONG shot. Context: Bear posturing upto a Dragon

I am confronting my first dragon
in Whiterun
, so majestic, wonderful thing, and so statuesque. But he kills me in a couple of seconds, I am level 11 still, trying to complete the quest. It seems impossible -equipped with a War Axe of Binding in right hand and Healing in the left hand-.

It's 3AM in the game, so battling him at night, gotta love the fireworks. This is a magical game.
I'm also at level 11, and having beaten 3 dragons, none of them have given me any trouble at all.
In fact, I've been quite disappointed how weak the dragons have been, they basically do very little damage compared to even some sabretooth cat. I don't even have any special armour or anything :???:
Maybe I've just encountered the weaker ones, and there indeed will be more powerful dragons in the game.

The patch also seemed to fix the level scaling of your followers (Wife, Shieldmaiden, Husband etc.), so it's a perfectly viable strategy to actually have them tag along with you now. Before the patch Lydia was a liability who could barely take a hit from a Troll or Bear. She was pretty much stuck at Level 1 while I was in my mid-forties. Now she quite happily slaughters Draugir Death Lords and Dwarven Centurions.

Performance on the PS3 was definitely improved too and the odd controller lag that kicked in every once in a while is thankfully gone as well.

I really liked the ending of the main quest by the way. A lot better than I anticipated given how Elder Scrolls games, Skyrim included, aren't exactly known for their memorable "cut-scene" moments.

I have yet to encounter any non performance-related bugs by the way. I guess I was lucky.

Are you still running it with a SSD HDD ?

EDIT: From the GAF thread, it sounds like the game has some concurrency bugs that were partially fixed in this patch.

Maybe it's just my imagination, but to me it seems like the PS3 patch also had a slight effect on the AA method in the game. The game looks a bit crisper now.

Well, I am playing on expert -the penultimate difficulty setting-, if that matters. I am still stuck at that fight, but having lots of fun. I will try again tonight.

On a different note, Skyrim is the first western game ever to get a 40/40 in Famitsu since this magazine was created.

Doubt it a lot. But wow about this
Improved occasional performance issues resulting from long term play (PlayStation 3)
Yeah, occasional  Bethesda games on the ps3 are a bad joke, not more... don't deserve to sell a single copy, it's digusting to see something like this after more years. Forgive me but I never tired to repeat it's a total shame release a game in these conditions... thanks to God I have descovered recently M.A.M.E. on pc & I dedicate all my time only in the retrogame...

I must agree with Sigfried1977 the game looks slighty bit crisper now. Maybe do to better filrate as the games fps seem to be smoother now.

Oh, I think I'm playing it on the normal difficulty.
That explains ;)
Was about to post when I saw your reply so I decided to quote it.

I am confronting the dragon again, still level 11. My last savegame starts the game just before the nord guard says
"Oh no, here it comes again. Gods saves us"
so I can't run like a coward. I have a previous savegame -I wanted to go to Riverwood to chop some wood for the moneys  but I followed the guards and got into the battle- although I will keep trying.

It's difficult. I am melee, and getting close to him is hell. If I fight him head on I become a ball of fire, and it drains like 90% of my life bar -full it's like 170 points of life-.

As if that wasn't enough, if I somehow manage to get very close to his head he kills me closing his fauces in my body, after belching out fire at me. If I get behind him he hits me with his tail. Two hits, I am done.

So I expect a half an hour, 1 hour epic battle. But I love challenges and I am having lots of fun. Another problem is that my allies are dropping like flies.

It's surprising though those dragons I've encountered have been so weak. I have actually just stood right in front of them and just beat them to death with some 20+ damage point weapon without really taking much damage from the fire or hits. And I definitely don't yet have any super armour or some rare item that would give me some invulnerablity against dragons.
I've actually wondered if my game has encountered some bug or glitch. I think in normal difficulty they should present at least some challenge, even if they were the weakest dragons in the game.

I'm playing on Normal and if I even step close (Heavy armour, shield raised) to an elder dragon , they will one-shot kill me by picked me up in their mouth and throwing me. Maybe I don't have enough health or something. I think I'm about 300 health.

To be honest, the biggest disappointment in this game, for me, is the dragon battles. Essentially I have to hide behind some type of barrier and pop out shooting arrows, while constantly summoning flame atronachs. It takes forever. Sometimes I'll get brave and rush out to melee their last sliver of health, but I've been burned by that several times with a one-shot death.

I finally defeated the dragon, after 20/25 minutes, approximately. It took a lot of time but in your case I am surprised you go through such difficult moments when confronting them. They are relatively vulnerable. I beat him using a coward tactic, getting under cover at every opportunity and then when he focused on the guards attacking him in the wings, where he didn't harm me much and seems to be their weakest point.

It's been a while since I posted a music video based on Skyrim, but now is the perfect time to listen to the angelic voice  of a female "bard".

She uses her computer to experiment and records her music -the "cathedral effect" of the sound-, as she explains in the second video. She certainly has a great voice -gave me goosebumps- and seems to be an accomplished musician.

Fabulous cover. I got the chills.

I prefer the second song for some reason, but both are great (the choir effect in the first song, oh my...)

Cast some armor spells on yourself first?

Bad news for Xbox 360 users. The new patch fixes the texture problem, but the game becomes a mess, apparently, because every creature, dragon, NPC, your character, lose all resistances.

This means that argonians doesn't have resistance to poison, nords frost resistance is also gone. dark elves fire resistance doesn't work either. The game is broken because every creature, NPC etc are completely resistanceless as they don't have any percent of resistance to any kind of decease or magic at all.

So just having downloaded the new patch, I was hearing of a glitch with elemental resistance e.t.c. so I thought I'd try it out to see if the issue was real.
Guess what? My level 80 Nord warrior just got his ASS HANDED TO HIM by an ancient FROST dragon. Yes a frost dragon. It seems my Dragonplate Armor which among other things is enchanted with 100% frost resistance is now obselete. My stamina and health were drained by the ancient dragon before you could say b.u.l.l.s.h.i.t.

This just sucks, I dread to think how my thief will face off against dragons now...

More on the matter here:

http://forums.bethsoft.com/index.php?/topic/1297815-dont-install-12-patch-it-breaks-the-game/

The only solution I find is installing the current patch back, but it's not an easy process.

The patches can be found at Xbox Update Center -hope the previous patch is still there but I think so-

http://www.xbuc.net/

This is where you can find all the Skyrim updates:

http://www.xbuc.net/?searchString=Skyrim

I had deleted all the data from my USB drive yesterday and transfered it to the HDD because I thought the patch would fix the textures problem. The game was running fine installed in the USB. No texture bug whatsoever.

Also if you don't install the update.you can't go online while playing -it really sucks because I usually chat with my friend there-. But I think I am going to refuse to install it.

How to install updates on the 360

I translated and edited it since I couldn't find an online guide in english. I knew about http://www.xbuc.net because I thought that maybe some day I might have to install an update manually.

First you have to format your USB drive using the options available in the Memory settings menu. Here is a guide, but it's a very easy process..

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/how-to/usb-flash-drive.

Once you have done this...

a) Download this program called Xtaf Gui v44

http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PFCECJ60

b) Plug your USB drive into the USB port of your PC.

c) Download this program called Xtaf Gui

http://www.mediafire.com/?4m4t5ch72i28vrf

d) Run the program and in File menu select Open Drive:

b0255a6fded07e4cbed142868000ea9do.jpg

e) Then you should see listed a "Cache Partition" and a "Data Partition". Choose Cache Partition.

724e0a0747835162483725ba54d8c67eo.jpg

f) When the Cache folder appears, the right side of the window will be empty. Just drag and drop the update file you downloaded from http://www.xbuc.net/ . You can also click the right mouse button and use the Inject option and load the file manually.

All the names of the updates start with a TU.

Before downloading an update you have to make sure the Region Code of your DVD matches the Media ID of the patch you download from xbuc.net

The media ID are the numbers and letters after the hyphen.

abgx360mediaid.jpg

To know this you need to go to http://abgx360.net/download.php and download this program called abgx360

If I understood it correctly you have to insert your Xbox 360 DVD into your PC DVD drive and check the Media ID with this software.

Here is a guide:

http://digiex.net/guides-reviews/co...des/1244-how-stealth-patch-xbox-360-game.html

However, you may not need the abgx360.

After "injecting" the file in your USB drive using the Xtaf Gui software, you have to plug your USB drive into the Xbox 360 and launch the game. It should update to the version 1,1 of Skyrim.

If it doesn't it's because your media ID doesn't match that of the DVD, but you can try the different files in the list http://www.xbuc.net/?searchString=Skyrim and see which one works, sigh :???:. My media ID should be the PAL one. Either that or the PAL NTSC/U file whose Media ID is 49A1477A

xbuc.net allows you to search files by their media ID.

If I update the game is quite broken, and if I don't I won't be able to chat online. It sucks.

Well, I've finally decided to install the new patch, because it solves some important bugs -while adding this one-. Also the new patch savegames don't work with previous patches. I will try to test later if this non resistance bug actually happens... if so I hope they patch it as soon as possible.

I am not so sure this bug exists, just from reading some fellow forumers. I prefer to test it myself, but how... I don't know, I am level just level 12 and I don't have any weapon that deals elemental damage. My next character will be a mage, but for now I am stuck with my melee character. If I could somehow summon an Atronach and attack him to test his resistances then it might work.

The textures issue seems to be fixed. But others appear.....

I patched as soon as it came out. So far I've encountered one total freeze that necessitated a hard reset. No reverse dragons and I have been in quite a few scraps, Mzulft for those that know... shudder, and haven't noticed any change in the amount of damage I'm either handing out or receiving. But I always fight to the line anyway.

The graphics do appear to have sharpened up and the menu lag seems to have decreased but the conversation lag is still there.
