Crytek Presents: CRYSIS 3 [PS3, 360]

...so with all their atention to graphics, did they just forget to make their shadows transition smoothly from cascade to cascade? Because that's what I think I saw at the end of the trailer.

Thats because this trailer was on console settings.

Er, am I the only one who's somewhat reminded of the first few shots of the Halo 4 ending cinematic we did? ;)

Good question, Crysis 2 looked good, but in my opinion did not had the best console graphics at the time.

"He continued: "Any day I will take a battle against Gears and Halo, whatever, the amount of data we put in and the detail level is far superior. With Crysis 3 we're pushing that to another level, but the PC is just two levels beyond." ;)

What about Battlefield? Or a game running at 60 fps on consoles? Or a top tier open world game? Two odd choices to call out unless that's the joke.

Why the heck did they desaturated everything in the supposed console trailer? It would work for war torn city but not for a foliage based environment. Other than that looked pretty good.

I still find the art direction as uninspired as it was in Crysis 1...

I don't want to be a complainer but I thought it was only me who felt like that Laa-Yosh.

I'm even glad you've said it because I know you're an accomplished technical artist, and I know more than most you know what you're talking about.

On the other hand however I thought Crysis 1's art direction, particularly for the alien squidly-diddly matrix robots and alien ship/tech/archetecture, was at least pretty consistent. Crysis 2's art direction was a mess for me. As not only did they go waay overboard with all the colour grading and filters that didn't suit the art style of the game, the enemy and tech. design just seemed a mess to me, and a far cry from Crysis 1.

I'm all for devs changing things to improve them in later iterations of games in a series, but for Crysis it's just a mess. The alien and enemy tech and designs in 2/3 are nothing like they are in 1. For one the aliens themselves go from being green-bluish "Independence Day"-looking aliens, to pink gooey squidly things that bare no resemblance whatsoever. Then things like the pinger were lifted straight out of the 90s robocop movies, and don't even look like their crafted by the same hands that made the matrix squidly robos in Crysis one. I just hated the visual incongruency and inconsistency.

It's why I just can't bring myself to be excited about Crysis 3. Well... that and the AWFUL story of Crysis 2 (they hired some big name military author for THAT . Crytek what are you doing guys? I could have written you a better story in pre-school).

Have they mentioned this? Why do that at all? Either show it on PC with max or show it on the console...why show a "console setting" on PC ? cos it won't look like this on console? Weird !

Anyways, Crysis 2 was a good game on the ps3 too, so not worried that much, but make sure it has more open areas than Crysis 2, thats all I ask for.

Exactly ! Crysis 1 art direction was waaay better than the hodgepodge of Crysis 2 @ Even today, I enjoy Crysis 1's visuals more than Crysis 2 !

This footage has quater or half-res bokeh, worse particles that stay for shorter time, lack of shadowing on particles, shadow lod problems, worse ssao, limited pom, lack of tessellation and much worse shaders and materials than MP Alpha. Lowest Settings in MP Alpha had only worse shadows, because they had smaller visible distance and not so much lod changes like here, but other than that, it had higher precision on everything else, including bokeh.

Well it didn't have the 20-25fps that the console versions will probably run at and that's most likely the reason that we only get to see "console settings" on a PC and not the console versions in action.

Graphics are not the problem anyway, Crysis 2 on the 360 was breathtaking it was the performance that was horrible and I doubt this will change for Crysis 3. :(

The performance and TAA was the most horrible thing about Crysis 2.

Not the pop ins, not the resolution (which was almost 720p anyways) but those two.

If that footage was PC at console settings, I could seriously consider getting it on the 360 for single player:D(provided the framerate is solid)

I wonder if requiring a DX11 GPU on the PC really is necessary though(or wise)
