Crackdown on Xbox 360 new Info in GI

I think most people were not impressed until they saw the trailer. Have you seen it?

*If* the game turns out that way, there is no way it could be done on the Xbox.

Nothing, especially if you know its x360, will impress you... oh well.

I'm impressed with PGR3 but It's true my hopes are higher for the PS3..
And I can predict your reactions to many x360 games would be different if there were to be a PS3 lable on it... oh well.

Too many people here trying to compare this to the GTA. Why do people still think that it's easy to make another GTA game here? Many people have done it and many people have failed. It's not easy guys. GTA is more than just an open envirnoment. It has funny satire, great gameplay, cool artwork, great presentation, great music, great voice acting, some of the best storylines in videogame history, and best of all it’s fun all at the sametime.

Don't give this game "the next GTA" so fast. It needs to earn that, not be giving to it just because it's an open world.

PEACE.

Actually your right. You should be able to easily predict my reactions to games labeled PS3 considering over nearly 800 posts nearly every post of mine relative to PS3 games has been fair but enthusiastic. Some disbelief (I'm sceptical of EVERYTHING, go figure) but I plan on owning a PS3 and all the great games that will come out for it. So you're right. Problem is there isnt much to go on except trailers at this point and Heavenly Sword!!!!

I hope that Sony will remain true to form and release extraordinary footage during 360's release period which will blow me away.

Whereas your style of post doesnt just tend to just exhibit bias toward the PS3 which is fine, but more often not bias against the x360... which is fine too it just makes you predictable. LOL

In any case I hope crackdown ends up looking closer to the trailer than to the screenshots we have seen. Based on Kameo, which is now my benchmark for the ability of a game to visually dramatically improve, I have high hopes.

DoA and Bloody Roar are Tekken like games. Gameday and NFL2k are Madden like games. Forza and Enthusia are GT like games. Unreal, Quake, Half-Life, Call of Duty are shooters. Midnight Club, PGR are like Ridge Racer. SF Rush, Burnout, Cruis'n USA are like Outrun. Sonic Team Racing, Diddy Kong Racing, Crash Racing are Mario Kart like games.

And so Saint's Row, True Crime are GTA like games.

Some games can be classified by genre (FPS, racing, RPG, etc) others, where they are either 1.) a sub genre like a specific class of racing game (action combat racing, cartoon racing, super arcade racing, arcade-sim, forgiving sim, harcore sim) or 2.) a game starts a new genre of gaming and everything that follows it is a knock off.

I think GTA falls into #2. It started, or at least made popular, a genre of games. In that sense Saint's Row and True Crime are "GTA-knock offs" or "GTA like games".

Many publications only have so many categories (Action, Platform, Adverture, Sports, FPS, RPG, etc). GTA style games are "perpetual, large, streaming worlds with an emphasis on interactivity and player freedom to push the game forward".

How do you fit that into one word :???:

As for the "Next" GTA, well, the guy making the game was the creator of the GTA1 and GTA2 games for the PC which were, to my understanding, a cult hit. He seems to be the creative type. Personally I would prefer it not to be the next GTA. There are many elements of GTA that keep me away. The fact Crackdown is a cop bringing down organized crime is a positive in my book ;)

Well the person who made gta , gta 2 and was involved with gta 3 for half of its production is in charge of this game .

Which tells me that yes they do have a good chance of making a game even better than gta .

However it will be hard capture the hype around gta . Its like with final fantasy . There are better rpgs , but the hype machine is so high on the game that a game needs to be leaps and bounds better to be noticed .

It's underwater stabs like above what makes the status of this forum go down.

The hype/established franchise bit is very true. A lot of well know franchises milked sales for years with mediocre games while great/innovative games sold far worse.

So a game in the same genre frequently must stand out heads and shoulders above to make any inroads. That much is true.

His statement about FF is his opinion of course (shared by some, not by others). I have not really played the series much but I have heard this same senitment be said about the FF series by FF fans.

So what he said was a fact with an example that is his opinion. Not sure how that is a stab in this specific case.

You are right it could happen, but my opioion is it won't. Those R* boys really really know what they are doing even after that guy left during the middle of GTA III.

I don't really see what you opinion is based on though. Do you feel no developer on the planet has the potential to surpass Rockstar? Unless that's how you feel I see no reason to be so pessimistic.

Otherwise, there is every reason, based on what we've seen so far, to be optimistic for this game to finally be a GTA clone that stands on it's own two legs.

Lets review what we know so far about the game.

It has an original storyline and online co-op play, the gameplay will involve a police officer with super-powers that develop through the game, the city is vertical with multiple ways to access any building, it has elements of a platformer and what sounds like extremely open ended replayability.

It has a city with 3 kingpins, each with 7 different cronies that you can take out, each crony has various attributes/assets that you will gain upon taking them out.

All in all, sounds like fun, is original, and is in no-way a knock off of GTA.

The GFX look very good, although not the most technically impressive they have a very very nice stylized feel that will go along with gamers, and are miles beyond GTA3: SA. Some people, like Kevin from AOTS have decsribed this as the most visually appealing game at X05. I think this is ludicrous, but it's still proof that the GFX are very appealing to the casual gamer.

So we have new original gameplay, a very visually pleasing world, and the street cred of the original developer of GTA. If there ever was a game to be optimistic about "de-throning" GTA it would be crackdown. Up till now we've had GTA, and the GTA wannabees, this is the first game that looks like it may actually raise the bar beyond GTA and bring it to the next level.

Maybe we won't get to beat people to death with plastic dildo's, but I would trade that for much more open-ended gameplay, and more variety in the missions. Lets face it, GTA is getting stale, the novelty of getting a blowjob in a video game has worn off and it's time for a breath of fresh air.

I don't see the problem 3roxor . I never said that ff was bad . Can you point out where i said that .?

However it will be hard capture the hype around gta . Its like with final fantasy . There are better rpgs , but the hype machine is so high on the game that a game needs to be leaps and bounds better to be noticed .

Please where did i say that .

Show me and you have a point , if you can't then your just trolling my posts and it is you that is the problem
