Crackdown on Xbox 360 new Info in GI

The cat's at last been let out of the bag on Real Time Worlds' upcoming console plans. First mentioned late last night here at IGN, the mysterious new Xbox 360 title Crackdown is the second game announced by the startup developer, and it's being made for the Xbox 360 to be published by Microsoft some time next year. The Japanese name for the title is Riot Act.

First, some background in case you haven't been keeping up. Real Time Worlds is a Scottish development house formed by former Grand Theft Auto and Lemmings developers including David Jones, the founder of DMA Design. The company was formed back in 2003 but waited until this year to make its first major move, the announcement of All Points Bulletin for both the PC and Xbox 360.

A Dutch site claims it's going to be shown in Amsterdam (X05) next week.

I'm exceedingly lazy and copying a link to a thread instead of copying each individual picture link. The pictures may have been taken down by now, I don't know. http://forum.teamxbox.com/showthread.php?t=375942

I am totally unimpressed with the shots. It looks like a lifeless, barren tech demo. The style could work if everything wasn't so boring, drab and current generation.

Seconded. But I'm no GTA fan either...

It's about choices I guess. Lots of low poly chars and a big world or the other way around.

The pics leave a lot to be desired, I wonder how cellshading with realistic lighting would look. However, for now I will give it the benefit of the doubt as I guess it is long way of from release and many things can happen. Gameplay sounds cool though but that usually it does on every game...

wow I think the pics look pretty good, I mean compare that to GTA3 once na dit's atleast 3X as nice if not better.

It looks very good (not great) but I don't think you can make much of the actual gameplay look from this except for the cartoony style graphics.

Nothing, especially if you know its x360, will impress you... oh well.

it looks okay from what i've seen in gi ( i subsribe) . But i believe this game is coming out next summer which gives them plenty of time to bring it up to snuff . Whats interesting is the online co-op that i think can be cool . Its something lacking in gta , gta is so lifeless hopefully all these games will have co-op in the future

Also according to the issue the creator of gta was involved in gta 3 he left half way through development

What I find most funny about Crackdown's graphics is that they are very similar to the box art Rockstar uses for GTA. But GTA itself doesn't have the same style.

this game screams current gen to me *gasp*

really seems like its something that could be done on the xbox1 today.
maybe im missing something.

that said, i do like the art style compared to other games coming out of next gen titles. i hope it shapes up before release, which im sure it will :)

As with nearly all 360 games we get different quality pictures throughout a game's development cycle...

IGN has this photo also: http://xbox360media.ign.com/xbox360/image/article/655/655621/crackdown-20051004091241765.jpg

Bad Boy, it is a perpetual world game (think: GTA or Saint's Row or True Crime). Certain graphical touches are the tradeoff for a large, complex, and dynamic worlds. This is one reason they went the stylized route. Right now it his hit or miss IMO, but some of it looks very good for their genre. I like the cell shading overall.

I thought the CGI trailer was great and I really dig the concept art (here and here). Some shots seem very similar (like this and this and this and this -- specifically these two looks nice here and here). Others, well, I am not digging the color/lighting as much (here and here and here and here). I think it may be dusk so the light is giving off that nappy purple glow.

If the world is as interactive and dynamic as they say--specifically the 3 crime syndicates you are trying to bring down, each with 7 kingpens controlling different industries, this could be a really fun game. Think next gen GTA, but you are the good guy ;)

Remember this is a gta 3 type game . Not a fps or platformer. It has a huge world . Normaly these games have reduced graphics over a fps and other type games

Nice trailer. I liked the part when the lights get shot out and the room is cleaned out equilibrium style. Hmm Equilibrium, now that's a movie I wouldnt mind seeing a game made out of.

Had I the heavens' embroidered cloths,
Enwrought with golden and silver light,
The blue and the dim and the dark cloths
Of night and light and the half-light,
I would spread the cloths under your feet:
But I, being poor, have only my dreams;
I have spread my dreams under your feet;
Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.

Gotta love Yeats

lol @ everyone trying to justify my post by saying its a gta type game with a huge dynamic world, so automatically it should look worse. saints row looks tons better than this and it IS a gta clone. also, doesnt the ue3 support huge vast landscapes both city areas and country types without loading times?

im sorry but those images are really unimpressive, though i do like the art style, this seems like it almost could be done on current gen hardware.

only post i can agree with is this one..
