Couple of Nintendo patents.

...reading an adrenaline value from a control element on the controller indicating a level of aggression desired by the user for the animated action; selecting an animated action from the plurality of possible animated actions based at least in part on the adrenaline value...

Sounds like analog buttons to me...

To me it sounds like it's a little more than just analog buttons.

reading an adrenaline value from an analog control element on the controller indicating a level of aggression desired by the user for the animated action, wherein the analog control element is different from said at least one control element

The more angry you get, the harder you press the Buttons, the harder you hit- adrenaline detection perfect and it only needs analog Buttons ;)

Yes it specifically describes how you could use analog buttons in a sports game. I don't think it's about analog buttons since you can use analog buttons in many ways and in many kinds of games.

Maybe it's an OS detector. If the buttons are hit gradually harder, it's XP. If all buttons are hit at once, it's a user headbutting the keyboard in Win ME.

Edit: typo :~

Sounds like it's just activating different possible animations/events based on the velocity or an arbitrary difference noted between two given analog measurements while polling the controller input. Like drawing a gun in MG2&3 and then pressing the fire button, but not releasing quickly...allowing you to draw the weapon back instead of firing a round. Sounds like a meh patent, IMO...and kind of old, too. The other is just connectivity for games like Zelda Four Swords and FF CC.

The first one is for using analog triggers in sports games and the second one is about gameboy connectivity with the gamecube. This is made very clear in the images.

If that is the graphics chip of nintendo's upcoming console, I have to say it looks less like broadway and more like a county fair to me. The earlier claims of what was it, 3-ish times GC don't look far from the truth.

Then again, considering all the PS3 patents we've seen over the past two years or so and how closely - NOT! - they matched the finished thing, this doesn't have to mean anything. :D

On the 3 times more powerful number, from Planetgamecube's MAilbag:

The invalidation was very subtle, which has caused a lot of confusion. During my talk with Perrin at E3, which we never published because it was extremely short and disjointed and inconclusive, I did ask her about that number and what it meant. As I recall, her answer implied that what she said to Steven Kent (whose article contained the original quote) had been accidentally taken out of context. More likely, Steven was pressuring her to throw out some numerical figure, and she hastily offered "two to three times" without knowing if it is really accurate or how the gaming community would interpret it. My guess, honestly, is that Perrin had seen some Revolution tech demos, and that figure was her personal assessment of how the graphics had improved over GameCube. Perrin is an extremely smart woman, but her field is business, not programming or hardware design. And that is why she and other Nintendo executives have since avoided the numbers game completely, only saying that gamers will be surprised and very satisfied with the Revolution's capabilities. Again, this is all just my assessment of the situation, but I think it's close to the truth.

the 2-3 time misstatement was confirmed by nintendo to be false
