Business Approach Comparison Sony PS4 and Microsoft Xbox

I relied on Skype because of the encryption …

So it's no longer P2P, everything routes through MS servers?

Yes and no, basically its still P2P, but the supernodes are not out in the wild anymore, but in datacenters on MS servers.

Typical anti-MS behavior, so why let facts get in the way of spreading propaganda and FUD.

Hold on, gimme a break. Something like 2x-3x dozen websites reported that it banned for swearing on Skype. Most of them were circulating the same story.

Looks like its just upload studio judging from these users.

Part of the confusion was because the analysis of the video and subsequent ban isn't instant and takes time, and since the temp ban blocks Skype usage, and since they'd sworn on Skype they'd assumed it was for something else, namely Skype.

Plus the wording doesn't clarify the reasons so its left to the user to reflect and connect the dots on what caused the ban:

Idiot gets banned, idiot claims it was for swearing on skype. Idiot was really banned for uploading a profanity laced video, but that wouldn't produce enough outrage so why report that.

If your gold account is banned you can't use any service that requires live. Skype included.

Pulled over from pre-order thread regarding the effect MS's XBOne execution has had on PS4 sales.

Absolutely nothing. But they've probably helped sell quite a few!

Really? MS did more to give people a reason to buy a PS4 than any advertising by Sony ever did. You reap what you sow and all that.

Sales of PS4 are almost certainly supply limited at this time. Those totals reflect how many units Sony was able to get onto shelves for launch and little more.

There may be a time when you can attribute a certain portion of the PS4's sales totals to MS's failings with the XBOne, but now is not that time. Besides, as a PS4 owner isn't it a more pleasant thought to think that PS4 is selling on its own merits? Why de-emphasize that in favor of a poorly thought out dig towards MS?

I think the point being made quite badly is that although the truth is being reported it's not being reported widely and certainly not in the more mainstream of media.

If you look at what has been written and reported on about Microsoft and the Xbox One, it's almost universally bad. From the initial digital-only concept, which is course was derided for being anti-consumer to Kinect which the press widely reported Germany's Federal Data Protection Commissioner, Peter Schaar, calling a "twisted nightmare". The fact that in the same interview Schaar also said that he didn't think there was any malicious intent on the part of Microsoft got less reporting.

For gamers, who live and breath games and generally have a better understanding of technology, such reporting can be weighed and bias and ignorance discounted but for others, like your average mom and pop, they may well believe this stuff. If you're buying a nextgen console maybe you pick a PS4 instead of an Xbox. Maybe the kid wants an Xbox One but as a parent you give your kids what they need, not always what they want.

Microsoft's initial vision for the Xbox One, and the general ineptitude of the media, have probably helped sell more than a few PS4s that may have otherwise been Xbox Ones.

I work in an area of Government which gets more than it's fair share of press coverage, at least once or twice a month, and I've not seen an accurate press report for years. I've no reason to think other issues on which the press reports are any better researched, but certainly Government issues, technology and gaming are all a cluster fuck of mis-reporting and in this case it's not helped Microsoft.

I personally know few Xbox fans that converted to PS4. I live in Holland though: but in general their argument was: I am not going to wait for a slower, more expensive system, that won't even support voice-control in our country!

So if Microsoft made a better system, better yields/more production capacity: releasing in a top tier country, at a normal price, and supported the Dutch language. Then these people would not have switched.

So if I were Sony, I would deliver a big cake to MS headquarters saying:
We could not have had such a successful launch if it weren't for our competitors. Many thanks and may the best one win second place. Either Mario or Halo, we wish both the best of luck

You think the same about Sony reporting?
I think the only cluster fuck of mis-reporting is publications trying to pass the tech differences between consoles as "not noticeable"

I saw very little mainstream reporting on Sony.

I think this is way overblown. As a PS4 owner (I've still not seen an Xbox One in the flesh), I can appreciate the differences in graphics side by side, but it's not like somebody looking at the PS4 and Xbox One versions are going to see an abundant different in quality. In some cases the differences are subtle.

But surely it doesn't matter what others think, it's what you as an owner thinks!?! :???:
