Bitboys and 'Graphics hardware for handheld devices'

I guess, John Romero will develop "Hyperspace Delivery Boy II" for it?

isn't he busy making daikatana II... why you would remake the worst game ever i don't know, but i heard that somewhere

OT: IMHO Daikatana is not the "worst game ever", its just the "worst disappointment ever" because it couldn't live up to the hype. The first scenario was horrible, but after that some parts of the game were actually almost enjoyable, pitty nobody cared to find out because the beginning sucked so bad, what were they thinking ...

So Bitboys are now focusing on graphics with handhelds rather then ultra high-end PCs? Talk about 180... But nonetheless, best of luck to them.

I guess their bullshit about a 1024bit memory bus that allows them to achieve 20GB/s memory bandwith just doesn't cut it anymore now that cards are doing it with 256bit Buses. Would've been interesting to see an AGP card with the eDram they claim to have been using...

they had to have been doing something for the past few years. simple math shows that its obvious BB knew their integrated ram design would never work then, and is already severely outdated.

PVR can say been there done that. Old link.

The MBX already seems to have most of these features excluding the embedded ram and support for 640x480 which I am assuming is to be used in those surfboards.

I still have a hard time believing the palm pilot and cell phones need 3d. But I can tell you another feature I thought was useless was color lcd cell phones, but now all my middle class snob friends want phones that have that so, what do I know?

A gameboy with wireless multiplayer would be a blast.

It's probably a bad joke. Afaik he's working on games for Handhelds. Believe it or not he is also supposed to be teaching courses on Game Design with Tom Hall.

Possibly true, of course much of the hype was their own fault and inability to live up to it. Eg. Requiring your NPC friends to 'zone' with you to complete a level but they usually ended up 'stuck' to an object (tree, etc), or had major difficulty climbing ladders. Of course doors that killed you or them probably wasn't a good idea either. ;)

Heh...I read some review of Daikatana when it first came out...it was probably about the top three funniest things I've ever seen. I'm sure a lot of the reviews were a bit comical, but this was just hilarious. If anybody knows what I'm talking about, hook us all up with a link. ;)

Edit: Something Awful's review of the demo is pretty funny. Not sure if its the one I remember...

hehe :) or maybe I should use :D instead.

oh well... you guys are so funny.

I still wonder why everyone is supposing BB to change their target market...

And it seems that on the last autumn Dave was right: No one here knows even the half of the picture. And that's why they are so easy to bash.

Little Penny, I agree that hand held gaming device with enough 3D power and wireless online support would be blast off. Related to this I have some pretty interesting 'links' between few finnish companies dealing with this kind of stuff, but because they are far from raw facts, better drop this conversation until the presentation has been held. (somehow I have found my words taken sometimes as it would be official word.)

and btw, for me this wasn't really a suprise... as you can see that whitepaper is also already year and a half years old, so afaik that has been written way before anything bigger about Avalanche project started to surface...

Of course there's nothing technically stopping MBX from doing 640x480, it's just that lowcost LCDs are of a lower resolution. A better approach, therefore, is to use AA.

I think the review you're thinking of was one done by 3D Nuts. Of course they're long gone, but that review was the best laugh I'd had in ages! :D Damn I should have saved it onto my hard drive! :(

Best bit that I can remember from the review was the 'grasshopper's ass' or something to describe one of the weapons LOL

no kidding... potboys are still around ? new weed brand ? The guys who promised to counterattack the global warming problem with effects of nuclear winter ?
For me the funny part of it is, that i once worked for a finnish "high-tech company" for two years. They had quite big delusions as well, of how they are gonna conquer the world with their one and only revolutionary piece of equipment. A year after i quit they bankrupted :p

May I ask what company it was?

because almost all BIG finnish high tech companies are alive. (there isn't many of them, but some... everyone at least knows the Nokia, but Kone and JOT Automation aren't very famous but still very big ones...) So I suspect that it really wasn't really big company...

Wow, I can't ever imagine buying a product from a company called Jot. I am way too immature for that.

So if mbx can go higher res. than 320x240 what is its max? And do people generally use PowerSGL to code for this or another API?

EDIT: one line that really wasn't a fact was removed...
Little Penny: JOT Automation does machinery for things like electronic device construction lines. At least Nokia (and as far as I know, also Toshiba) uses their automatic production line machinery. So I doubt that you would need a 100 meters long 10 phase cellular phone production line at home. :D

EDIT : well, actually forget the whole thing...

I think it's just sad...I hate to say it, because I know Nappe1 is just a supporter, but...

Honestly, the word pathetic comes to mind. Yeah, I realize that @ some point, the guys have to make a buck. I mean, how the hell does a Company exist for like 4-5 years without a single product? But the handheld market? Come on.

I just think about their website for a good laugh. (OK here we go).

- The News section: The last 'news' item was almost 2 years ago! WTF?

- Clicking on the "Innovation" menu item, we get to see BitBoys claim to fame...Comparing their 20+ GB/sec bandwidth to the competitions 7.3 GB/sec. OK fellas, time to update the site...You've been eclipsed already :)

- The "Too good to be true, you say? Stay tuned…" is beyond old...I mean, how long can I "stay tuned" ?

- I'm looking for that article with the title "It's all about bandwdith baby!" That was a real gem.

OK, enough of the daily BitBoys/Daikatna slam...The fact that they're heading down the path of hand-held devices should tell you something.
