Bioshock

Btw, some random comments:

First of all, the research feature in this game is awesome!

The perfect way to break up the action and let you take in some scenery. It provides not only new gene tonics and upgrades for youyr characters, but increased damage against the enemies you research. Researching the little sisters gives you Health and Eve boosts.

I love following around the big daddies and little sisters, snapping photo's, or using enrage on a crowd of enemies, and have a little photo shoot :p

I can take out the BD's pretty easy now, using a my freeze plasmid and the grenade launcher. But at first they would kill me 5 or 6 times easily, and I really couldn't defeat them.

Started on Hard, but it was too difficult, so I switched down to medium which seems about perfect.

Ya it sounds cool, kinda like Fatal Frame, one of my favourite games last gen.
Is the research function available in the demo?

Sorry I couldn't find the spoiler tags...?? Do we have them on this board??

Just use [*color=#FDFDFD]This is a spoiler tag - the "*"[*/color].

Are you really sensitive to motion sickness in an FPS?

I ask because I tend to get motion sickness in some games. It is the reason I don't play any PC FPS games. Halo, Halo 2 and Doom 3 were about the only 2 FPS last gen that I could stomach. There have been a few more, but I can't recall them right now.

The demo didn't give me any problems though.

I do in corridor games. CoD and Halo and outdoor environments are not a problem.

but last night I took some ginger and cautiously played BIOSHOCK for 2.5 hours straight! it was great, felt much better.

having a blast with so many different things to do... At first I thought I'd hate hacking the machines but I'm kind of addicted to seeing how fast I can do it (although I now have some tonics to help)

Hmm that is all cool, but us "poor" folk with iphones will have issues seeing the tagged text. (as I type this on my iphone)

I love the game. Very deep with the different ways to get things done.

Well, you could switch to a different forum skin (User CP -> Options), that should make the spoilers more visible.

So how have some of you handled Mr Bubbles? I got my butt handed to me in the first encounter, had to lure him to a section of the map that had one of those crawlspaces. I notice Armor Piercing rounds were really effective. But I ran out of them. Any how. I think I will start over (sorta). I am hearing some interesting things about how to deal with the Little Sisters. Has anyone else heard what happens?

Some of the better strategies I've came up with:

Spoiler:

1.You can throw like 5 proximity mines in front of em, if they step on the pile, BOOM dead.
2. Freeze them, count to 4, just as they unthaw, shoot them with prox mine, or frag grenade. Repeat 4 or 5 times.
3. Shoot with "Bee Swarm" cause Big Daddy to flail away. Stand on the other side of a piller, and fire away with armor piercing rounds.
4. If the BD is walking down a hallway, use the crossbow and set up 4 trap bolts after he walks by. Then shoot him with your pistol. He'll charge at you, hit the traps...dead.
5. Set Security Beacon to draw BD away, and shoot with grenade launcher. Rinse repeat.

The main thing that bugs me about this game is the crappy 5.1, it never sounds like anything is in the right place compared to where it is on screen. That and all the NPCs have 3 lines of dialogue and by the end of the game it gets kinda tiring.

My Mr. Bubbles strategy
Once you get the chemical thrower, just load up on the electric gel and fire away. Literally the Big Daddy will just be stunned the entire time. It takes about 90ish gel to kill one and a whole lot less with the research damage upgrades. You can make the gel at the U Invent stations, so it is easy to have a full supply.

I think the sound is amazing... the projection from other rooms can get confusing because sometimes it is below you or above you or in an adjacent room but on my set up the sound locations give me excellent clues.

I prefer the "let's you and him have a fight" plasmid, as it uses fewer resources that way. :p

On an unrelated note, I SERIOUSLY can't understand people wanting to play this game on a gamepad. srsly

Have you actually tried playing it on the 360?

The controls are actually just fine and the rumble is quite well used, weapon/plasmid switching and reloading are quick and easy, the auto aiming isn't overdone and you can still get on target.

The game was incredible. The graphics are excellent, the sound and music blew me away, and there was tons of action as well as meaningful RPG elements and a great story. It is the first game in a while that I had this much fun playing a game, especially a FPS. I plan on playing through a second time more slowly to fully appreciate everything about the game and try out some whacky strategies!

Overall, I'd give the game a 9.8. I won't call it GOTY yet because I have high hopes for Mass Effect, but I could easily see this game winning.

Spoiler!

I'm very glad that I chose to save all the Little Sisters. Even though I got less Adam from saving them instead of harvesting them and thus was less powerful, the ending and the reception they gave me when I saw them after Tenenbaum saved me was well worth it. I even went so far as to not let the Little Sister that escorted me through the Proving Grounds die.

End Spoiler

I'm playing the Windows version with a X360 Gamepad. It controls quite well. The main reason I did it was for the rumble. It may be cheesy but it makes a difference. Boom-Boom-Boom as 'Mr Bubbles' run towards you is kind of cool. Normally I would play with a Keyboard+Mouse but I decided to play this with the pad.

Finished the game, also saving every little sister. Now I need to play it through on hard, and finish the achievements. There's like 5 or 6 I still don't have. (Including full research on cameras, turrets, and security bots, bleh...). Mmmm...

Incredibly awesome game overall.

Heh, since I moved my gaming PC to the living room I play pretty much anything I can with a controller, even go so far as to emulate keyboard and mouse functions with a wireless 360 controller to play games like Stalker. It is simply more comfortable than balancing a keyboard on my lap, and it is also much easier to pass around the room when friends want to play. Granted, when I play Counter Strike and such I bust out the wired mouse, but for single player games and even some online games were the competition isn't so hot I prefer kicking back with a controller.

I picked up Bioshock this morning and for 12 straight hours, i've been playing it and if it wasnt for the fact that I had to do something later this morning, i'd keep playing despite of how tired I am (I only had 3 hrs of sleep the previous night because I couldnt sleep all night thinking about the moment that I finally get this game  )

Environments are simply beautiful, water effects are gorgeous, gameplay was addicting and it was great to start on medium difficulty, though it still felt easy at times.

Im typically the kind of guy that walks thru every square inch of a level to inspect stuff on a shooter game, and this game rewards me for it  (you never know what neat things you can find ^^)

-sighs- time to sleep, or try anyway...

My impression after playing the game all day yesterday is that it's very dense, almost overwhelmingly so. So much to find,do ,explore ,so many choices.
Reminds me a lot Theif: DS and DeusEx:IW in that you have this small tight world,as if no space is wasted or superfluous.
It's also a little harder than I expected even on normal. I'm progressing fine, but I've visited the vita-chamber more than a few times. I'm not sure if I like that or not.
With being revived and just carrying on it feels sometimes as if there are no consequences to your actions in that sense. The only consequences being individual completion options, but your actual progression isn't ever threatened it seems.

I really like the game,I think it's going to take many times playing it through to get the most of it. That's great for someone like myself that's primarily a single player gamer.

You know, I thought I had a problem with the Vita thing at first, but then I realized after the first Big Daddy was slaying me over an over, I may come back with more health, but im still left with my ammo, and eve. I either need to HOPE their is a vending machine near, or try again with different tactics.

I dont like to die. In video games, in real life, whatever...I have grown to like the system. And oh yes this game reeks of replayability!
