Bioshock: in depth interview of gameplay

The only reason it bothers me is because it's a iffy sort of process. What if I decide 10 years down the road that I want to install Bioshock again, but the validation/company is long gone? Wouldn't my game be essentially useless?

That's the only part that bothers me.
Just use a crack, I'm pretty sure 10 years down the road one will be available. I can't think of any games that stayed uncracked that long.

They mentioned in the Gamespot preview/interview that they weren't thinking about it right now, the old "concentrating on getting the game finished and shipped before we even consider it" type philosophy that even I can appreciate. :yep2:

Once the game is done I have a feeling they'll throw a demo together, too many people will want one to see how the game will run on their systems methinks.

It's gonna be close with me, I may or may not be able to run it well...I'd really like to test it out with a demo first.

Neat stuff. This game is hyperbolic.

That's my favourite non racing game on the X360 since FPS games (quite relaxing for me actually) are my 2nd favourite genre. Perhaps the game of the year?

I LOVE the art direction, it's unique. It's hard to describe it always reminded me one of the best pinball machines ever; Twilight Zone (take a look at my profile).

Bioshock gets 10\10 in OXM

Bioshock got 10\10 in OXM. Thats the 2nd time ever they gave a 10\10 score. This will be brilliant.

Thanks for the info. Neat find. It also got:

5/5 Stars in Alternative Press

95% in PC Gamer UK

98% in Gamers

I love the art direction, the uniqueness and originality..., I already knew the game would go far! Seems to me that Bioshock is going to be the game of the year.

I'm actually losing interest in this game the more I see of it, but I can't really put my finger on why.

It is not comming for PS3? ;) //joke

With so many FPS games released one is bound to get tired of them, but then Bioshock has some interesting stuff such as under water fights. I just hope the levels arent as repetitive as PREY!

To me it seems like another unplayable game with broken mechanics.
I don't think it should appeal to an average gamer: the controls are complex, almost no good highlights and very confusing feedback.
But, considering all the hype, it may even sell in good numbers, I wish good luck to the devs.

How can you say that when you haven't even played it?

Eh...we're talking about gameplay video don't we?
So in video I don't see decent feedback from your actions, I don't see good highlights on how to do things, and i see a lot of weapon switching = bad controls.
That's it.

How does a lot of weapon switching mean bad controls? It means you need the right weapon for the right job. The fact that weapon switching is done so often means its easy and therefore good controls. Or wait a second... no one has a clue till they play it.

That player was trying to show off all the cool stuff in the game. He was switching weapons a ton to do that. From what I saw there was one backup weapon (wrench), four primary combat weapons (revolver, tommy gun, shotgun and flamethrower), two environmental weapons (the rocket launcher and crossbow were used to lay traps) and presumably one weapon I didn't see (they said there were eight total). This means that we will likely be switching from the primary weapons to the environmental weapons fairly often, but I didn't see any reason aside from personal preference and ammo availability to use more than the tommy gun and rocket launcher.

1) It's not a color by numbers game.
2) Some of the stuff is pretty intuitive, electricity reacts to water...etc.

1. It doesn't matter, any game should have highlights, because you should not guess how developers wanted you to do something. If the highlights are clever you'd even think you've got to the solution yourself.
2. You seem to think you can do any solution at any time, I don't think it will be possible.

Err... there is such a thing called "context based action". If you need lot of various actions in the game (which is bad by itself) better to implement as many as possible through their context. If you can not, for example: the context is very broad, you can do a good switcher: D-pad based switching, shoulder + analog stick etc.

I'm sorry, you'll have to forgive me but I'm a PC gamer. I have no problem managing 20+ key binding and rapidly switching all the time its part of what draws me in. That is on a keyboard though and on a game pad it might be a bit hard... Either way, I don't consider the game having a bit of a learning curve a real problem at all.
