Not to start a political flamefest here, but interesting choice of teams for a 'modern combat' game.

I don't care about politics, I just wish the OP had pasted a press release written in a language I could f'n understand!

EA AND DIGITAL ILLUSIONS ANNOUNCE DEVELOPMENT OF BATTLEFIELD: MODERN COMBAT FOR THE PLAYSTATION 2
Award-winning Battlefield Franchise Comes to Console for the First Time

Chertsey, UK. – April 15, 2004 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS) announced today that the award-winning Battlefield franchise is coming to console for the first time with Battlefield: Modern CombatTM for the PlayStation®2. The title, which is currently under development by Sweden-based Digital Illusions, is scheduled for release in late 2004 under the EA GAMESTM brand.

The first-ever Battlefield console installment will drop players into the heat of battle on the high tech frontlines, entering a new modern era of combat with more firepower and new expansive environments. Players will choose to fight for one of three military superpowers: the United States, the Chinese, or the newly formed Middle East Coalition.

Developed by Sweden-based Digital Illusions, Battlefield: Modern Combat features large and detailed environments, from city streets to remote forests, in some of the globe's most notorious hot spots, allowing players to engage in multiplayer battles that could be ripped straight from tomorrow's headlines. "

My translation: The game player combats under the colors of three superpowers of choice, the US, China, or the very new coalition of the Middle East.

I take that to mean a coalition of middle eastern states only.

maybe the evil coalition

This comment doesn't belong here at all, take it to Religion and Politics if you feel you have something to say.[/quote]

Persistent online world

Sounds like this is a quasi-MMORPG game.

To maintain this persistent online world, they will probably charge a subscription for the infrastructure.

Hopefully, this is an exception rather than the rule to EA's lineup. There are rumors about EA charging for playing online with their sports games. In other words, charging for what they provide for free now.

Or if they want a SOCOM killer, they don't charge for online access to this Battlefield game.

HDD access would be nice, if only to save money on memory cards for people who have more than a couple of their games.
