I highly doubt Google will release an OS, I do see them however become serious partners with Google. I think Google will just keep getting bigger, and Microsoft will nothing other than pressure and will offer some sort of partnership. Either way, I dont see Google hurting M$ all that much.

They are already a small step on the way with desktop search. From a users perspective the most important role of an OS UI is the abililty to find files and documents.

The officepack could be a webbased Java app like Gmail, that would let you access wordprocessing, spreadsheet, database, presentation manager and the like, from any computer and save your work to the server, or on your own machine.
