B3D News Item: Xbox 360 System Update Preview (US-Only)

Yeah I remember reading about that. The solution they came up with for Blu-rays work so well I have no scratches on any of my discs. For some reason my 360 puts circular scratches on my games so I am forced to install every game which is hard since I only have a 20gig. Sorry for the OT.

edit: Adding better coating probably won't help that problem though
Indeed, the Blu-ray coating is exceptionally resistant and pretty amazing engineering to get it onto the disc. The problem with your xbox 360 is not any coating on the DVDs, it's the xbox. Generally I've only seen cases of those circular scratches if someone moves the xbox while the disc is spinning, but there may be cases where it spontaneously happens. It's one of the disadvantages of the extreme speeds the disc spins, it has a lot of rotational inertia, and even a small imperfection on the disc or drive spindle could cause it to wobble in the drive and scratch.

do you have machine standing up?

My Xbox went through a period of basically grinding the outer edges of discs off. Since I've had it upright it's stopped doing it.

Has anybody received any kind of email notification after signing up? I have yet to receive anything.

Should hear something in about 2 weeks from the registration closing date.

Major Nelson had said we should see something that says "Pending" on the Microsoft Connect site. It took some work finding, but I finally see where it says that. Whew. But I still hate waiting for stuff like this.

It has the same typical limitations as other events from what I read during the signup process.

I thought we were supposed to get Hulu support along with more support for Kinect controls. You guys think we'll have that as well in the preview? I'm guessing not, but it would be nice.

Does this preview have an NDA?

IIRC no talking on forums, podcasts, etc.

Not really sure what there is to talk about anyways :p

Wonder if they're giving priority to folks who don't have Reach in their gamer profile.

The acceptance could be impacted by geographical locations. Maybe they were looking for less west-coasters with the MS Campus being in that region?

I didn't receive a rejection email, went to the site and after logging in, I saw this:

We are looking forward to your active participation in the program and hope that you will check back in here on a regular basis to stay informed and involved with the latest updates happening in the program. To access the latest information available for the program click on the links in the left-hand navigation bar or the specific content links below.

I wonder if someone who was rejected would see the same thing. If not then it looks like I'm in.:D

Actually I'd imagine they would want people who have played Reach a lot since they would be the people most likely to notice issues.

I got rejected as well. That's the first time they have done that. Oh well. Maybe they will have more waves open later?

Last I heard the Hulu & the additional Kinect support was coming "early 2011". Looks like it's probable it will show up in the preview since they they're this late in getting it out.

Updates have been available on Live and disc form for a while, so I wonder what's so special about the "nature" of this update. :?:

I got the same thing.....
Looks like I'll get the update over LIVE like you, instead of from the Halo:Reach disc, I wonder how long before we see the "a system update is available" pop up when turning on the 360?

Everyone gets the halo reach disc. The only diffrence is that some of us are downloading the update and some are getting the update from the disc that is all.

They are doing this to make sure the update works both ways
